43's are overkill. Shoot, I did all the Hammer trails on DOT 37's at 30 psi. The road maners of a 40" radial will be soo much better than any 43 you decide to run. Your 40 is set up well, had good travel. Just drive it. The extra strain on the drivetrain comes into play too. I broke Chromoly 35 spline D60 axles shafts on 37's. Now I run 300M RCV's. and 40" stickies.

This was a joke, the Jeep jamboree had a max tire size requirement of 40"... lol

As a Cummins 12/24 valve fan through and through, that 606 is a far better fit for this application in my mind.

That 606 would never hold up to the task in my Cruiser. I’d kill it on I-70 at 10,000lbs with the camper and gear in tow. I would probably have to use double low to make it to the top. I remember those days with the 2F trying to pull Kenosha Pass in low first gear. I’d rather not revisit that part of my childhood.

I’m willing to give a 606 a go if you think that it can spin 40” tires at 65 mph up I-70 from Denver. Come to CO and we will hook some weight to you and you can show me . I’d love to have better fuel mileage.

Perhaps this would be a great conversation around a campfire in WY.

Easily. Especially on a light load like that.

30k pounds? I'd want more displacement and a more cooling. Enter the 5.9 Cummins.

Heavier yet? I love me a 6-71. 2 stroke diesels give me a boner.

I do have a relative in Gillette, WY I asked him about trails around the Freeze Out area. He said they were just up there. His words were "That area will not disappoint and you should see lots of moose up there."

I thought that sounded really promising. Even coming from a Jeep guy. lol.

The 606 is new to me so been googling it to find some specs...It is 3" shorter, which can be the world, but its half the liters and less than half the torque, albeit less than half the weight, an aluminum head, and a chain driven oil pump, and all those add up to you'd rather 606 a 40 than 12V it?

I'm over here trying to talk myself out of buying a 93 Club cab, 12V, dana 60's, NP205 just for the parts. Guy has a 2wd mate to it he thinks is a fixer upper. But I just really want the parts and do another 40 or 45, 12V, 60's, links.

I'd bet on whoever is 8000+ lbs and has a 240:1 final gear ratio.

In a 40? Yeah. Just off of weight. There's more than enough hp capability there with a 606 to break everything.
No clue what Minnesota Matt's is for power, but he pulled on me hard on the road. I'm kinda hoping he dynos it for fun

5.9 cummins is one of the best engines made, and you have the advantage of having wheelbase, so you have options for tranny and tcase that most don't have.

300hp and 5-600ft/lbs out of a 606 is way more than you'd need off road.

What sort of mods are you doing to a 606 to get this power range? This seems over triple the factory torque specs, right? What ballpark cost are we talking?
