First day down! The cruise did flawless until the camp ground where it didn’t want to start back up, after a few hours of digging and replacing the coil assembly with a spare @Trigger6 gave me and changing the rotor she’s back up and running ready for tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s plan is to drive from El Reno, OK to Amarillo, TX

If anyone around the Amarillo or Albuquerque area has an hei distributor or electronic ignition set up they would like to sell let me know.

Car is running good still but ignition has been a battle for a while, I think it’s time for electronic ignition.

Pertronix 1662LS.

although by the symptoms you described, I’m wondering if there is play in the distributor shaft and you need a new distributor (or maybe they can be rebuilt?) in which case the Pertronix may not help much.

I think replacing the hole distribution with an HEI might be best.

This has worked well for me. @50peaks sent Jimmy and Casey a note…I’m sure the community will deliver; always does.

I upgraded to this distributor with the Pertronix. Big difference in going from vacuum retard to vacuum advance…( but note that it uses a short rotor - which is something else that might be worth double checking and make sure the correct rotor is installed with the type of distributor cap currently installed)

I did the same - no issues + would do it again....

Be that as it may, I am going to look in my old parts box this afternoon, when I got Yellr it came with a HEI. I didn't use it after I rebuilt the engine. Pretty sure I didn't get rid of it yet.

Jimmy and Casey likely both at Lone Star Roundup this weekend.. so not home (but maybe getting home later this evening?)

@50peaks - I can overnight FedEx my extra Pertronix tomorrow morning to where you will be staying Tuesday evening. But I don’t think I have an extra of the short rotor that would be needed. But a Toyota dealership should be able to get that overnight. Your call

I have this … I can send… (it was superseded by 19102-45150 - still relevant & still new in box).

I posted wrong pic - but I see I have a rotor - will go rummage in my engine parts box.
Let me know
