Check out the itinerary for this year's bighorns jeep jamboree. Some more trails of interest, 299 doesn't look to be on OnX.

This is a cool find. I marked where I think road 299 is. Does this look right? The jamboree itinerary doesn’t mention that the road leads to a reservoir.

I’ve never seen a maximum tire size criteria for a club and I’d barely make the requirements.

I saw that as well and laughed.

I don't have OnX at the moment and that specific link just brings me to the sign in. But, looks like the trailhead is just northwest of Park Reservoir and leads to Weston reservoir. OnX looks to have it outlined but not labeled.

I saw that map, too. That is the same trail that I mapped. It looks like fun!

Be sure to refer to the official MVUMs after finding stuff on OnX. Here is the Bighorns NF MVUM.

Being that MVUMs are an incredible PITA for anyone without an ATV or UTV that actually have to care about width and trail restrictions, I went ahead and downloaded the MVUM line data and filtered out all of the motorcycle and width restricted trails, here they are as kmz that can be loaded up into google earth/maps or whatever mapping software you might use. I have them color coded according to level of interest, with red being highest interest of seasonal, native material roads with the highest FSR operational level on there of 2-high clearance vehicles. Yellow is same thing, but yearlong. Rest aren't really going to be of much interest I think.

Interest Level:
1-red
2-yellow
3-green
4-blue
5-gray

There is also a separate MVUM Trails data set that I have attached, but there really isn't much left after filtering out all of the trails we can't do. But here it is anyways.

This one looks exciting. Not on OnX. Initial search yielded nothing for this one. Sunlight (FSR 101) to Galena Creek (FSR 101.3I) up the mountain. Maybe worth a running out to this and the beginning of the Morrison after Bighorns.

That one doesn't show up on the Garmin maps either. Which is kinda odd, because the Garmin maps are cluttered with goat paths and deer trails

A few years back my friend and I went to South Pass, Wyoming for some camping. We ran the "Christina Lake Trail". it was fun, a bit technical and very scenic. I wouldn't run it this time of year. most likely between mid June to late August is your best time. Trail ends @10,000' elevation.

found this YouTube video...not me.

Anyone else feel like they are watching the "Blair Witch" movie?

These are the trails near Burgess Junction that look best to me on first review. That's about where we are thinking about base camping out of. Missing some actual "roads" that I am too lazy to add. It's pretty much most of the "red" roads.

How much do you charge for admission and what are the tire size requirements?

Nice work!

How many days are you planning to take on this venture?
Time frame? With SAS the first week of August, I would have to try and work around that. It is over 2000 miles each way. I did two trips across last year, Moab and Ouray. Doable but not sure I can do it every year.

I'd like to be on site s Monday through Friday

I'm not planning on doing SAS next year.
I'd be going around that time frame.

I am planning to be in Wyoming somewhere around April or May, and I might be able to come back later in the year for a longer trip.

I will most likely be in SW Colorado around the end of July or beginning of August. I don’t have anything definitively planned yet.

This all depends on whether or not I think that I can fit 43 inch tires on my truck before you all decide to get together. That will be the real challenge to work around.

If you are going to do some exploring earlier in the year, watch out for seasonal trail closures. Refer to the MVUMs. Some open in April, some in May, and some in June. Confusing. At least Black Hills trails all open same day.

43's are overkill. Shoot, I did all the Hammer trails on DOT 37's at 30 psi. The road maners of a 40" radial will be soo much better than any 43 you decide to run. Your 40 is set up well, had good travel. Just drive it. The extra strain on the drivetrain comes into play too. I broke Chromoly 35 spline D60 axles shafts on 37's. Now I run 300M RCV's. and 40" stickies.
