What's the best cat with y-pipe for over the frame rail exhaust replacement? Magnaflow 23210?

Hey folks,

Title says it all. I'm about to pull trigger on new CAT and y-pipe for my over the frame rail exhaust job. I'm partial to a cat with a Y-pipe since I've read of the y-pipe failing and I know mine is not in good shape. One last validation from Mud before I drop the $350.

MagnaFlow Direct Fit Catalytic Converters 23120

Thanks in advance for any replies!

I recommend the shortest cat available to allow more room for making the turn up and over the frame.

I went with the Magnaflow - at $280 through amazon it was a competitive price

It fit! It fit fine.

I did that y-pipe + cat and swapped for a magnaflow muffler too.

Both fit great and I just kept the tail pipe.

Did the exhaust shop have the flange for the o2 sensor?

Here are pix of mine. Generic "hotrod" cat from a Ma n Pa muffler shop. I have run it for several years with no problems. It is really short and makes it easier to shape the curved section over the frame. Rig gits wheeled hard and often, so rarely clean sniff to see my custom double heat shields. Greatly reduces heat in passenger floor.

Great question. No they did not but apparently, it did not matter. He said the second o2 was the threaded type though I'm certain there was a flange there. Someone suggested that they could simply be unscrewed. I haven't got a chance to take a great look at it because its in a hard to see area plus there's a foot and a half of snow on the ground.

I had a thread out on the forum here: Ideas on how to attach O2 sensor to new exhaust pipe?

What size bolts did you need for the cat flange? I'm going to be installing the magnaflow Y pipe and cat in the next few days.

Pretty much the same thing I have but my generic was probably a bit cheaper. Don't remember what I paid for the whole setup including a new noisy muffler but I think it was under $300. If ever get mine as clean as yours I will try to get pix of my double heat shield setup. It really helps keep the co driver cool on long hot climbs. I also have my laptop stand bolted to the 2 front seat bolts on that side and it also stays much cooler. That's right above the newly positioned crossover pipe. John

interested in the double heat shield pictures

also more pics on the Y pipe going up to the headers - was that welded as it connects up?

My Y pipe is all original. Pix show where cat was spliced in just before the slider cat protection. Double heat shields is just that. I added a second layer of OEM SHIELD in the first two positions.

so on the Y-Pipe connection ; the connector Y 'part' comes from the vendor and then is welded at the top (two pipes) to the original coming down from the headers?
