Hey folks,

My 97 fzj80 is at an indy exhaust shop today getting the over-the-frame exhaust job done. I went with the Magnaflow 23120 cat and a magnaflow muffler; going to see if I can reuse the tailpipe for now.

Anyhow, the cat has one slot for the oem O2 sensor but, since I'm going down to 1 cat for the job, there's only that one O2 spot.

Ok so I asked the shop to install the second somewhere on the pipe after the 1 cat and was told that wouldn't work because it was an old style sensor, a flat flange sensor, I believe he said. Apparently, new ones are threaded into the bung? :flush:

I told him to just hold off on that part of the job until we found a solution that would let me use my current OEM sensor. Any ideas? Can he just cut the old one off and use that section of pipe or what?

I was so good about getting OEM gaskets, gave him pictures of what I wanted done, took the truck to car wash, hosed everything off, labeled where the heat shield goes (got the heat shield for over-the-frame off a 94). I want this to go well and to be frank, I can stand letting other people work on my truck.:bang: Its never easy with mechanics. :(

Thanks in advance for any replies!

The OEM toyota sensor comes attached to a flat oval shaped piece of metal. It was my understanding that you can actually unscrew it from that piece and you will have a normal threaded o2 sensor.

Otherwise I believe @sleeoffroad sells the o2 sensor bungs that can be welded in.

I JUST DID THIS YESTERDAY! Cut your old bung out of the bad pipe with air cut off or electric angle grinder, "dress it up" on the bench grinder, and weld it on to your new pipe....... too easy! (Carefully remove sensor from bung before cutting and grinding) If they can't figure that out I would run out of that place quick!

I called and he says I'll be "all set". So my prediction is that he probably just pulled the engine so I wouldn't have to worry about exhaust anymore. :slap:

Edit: Thanks for replies. I'll update what his solution was when I find out.

I think @half k cruiser must be correct because mechanic said it was a thread type o2. He said the first one was the flange type. I haven't been under there enough to see exactly how it went yet but it seems OK!

And i still have an engine!
