Ya ya total newb question. It is what it is.

The stamp on the driver door pillar says the manufacture date was October of 1978.

Does this make it a 78' or a 79'? I figured this would be good to know when ordering parts etc. Thanks again for all the help guys:cheers:

crap,

looks like i'm going to have to change my sig line!!!

Thanks for the info.

My manufacturing date is 12/78, and everything on it year wise is a '78 ?

Hmmm... As there's no catalytic converter I'g say it's a '78. That will make it easier for you to pass Portland's emission testing. Which gears does it have?

I would not worry about it ....my FJ55 production date is 10/78 also, with 4.11 axles like a "78" and factory A/C,
likely sold as a "79" I call it a 78,
not to confuse the parts guy when I ask for A/C parts Its a "79" :meh:

Good year... Congrats!

Post some pictures

On a 30 year old vehicle anything could have happened to frame/tub/engine.
Check the plate on the firewall which should show the frame number and the engine number.
Look at the engine to make sure that the engine number matches.

Then check the frame number against the manufacture date matches what you think it is.

Mine is a month older than yours. Great year.

Great advice edwjmcgrath. I'll run through that stuff this weekend if it isn't pooring. Unfortunately I have a huge driveway and no garage and I live in the rainiest state in the union. I'm pretty sure it should all match up. The PO was given it by his dad who was the original owner.

I'll post up some pics if I can find them on the computer.

PS: why can't the 60 section be as helpful as the 40 and 80 section!!!!!!!!

The majority of 60 owners are near sighted stuck-up broke dicks.........

Wow. By the way did I say wow. I hope I'm not being lumped into the broke dick category cause I have a 60?

There is nothing worse than a broke dick.

then what is an 80 owner? much less a 100 or 200 series owner?

and for the record, my junk aint broke but according to the bank i am:doh:

It's a '78. Order parts for the '78 model year. 1978 was one of only two years that Toyota did the production run the entire calendar year. I think 1975 was the other year (?). It was because they introduced some major changes in '79.
