I know @scottryana was going to send one to ATI to hopefully do some 340 hybrid, but I never saw where that went. With all tge turbo builds and all the inspiration from @scotttryana builds... Its time to breath life back into the ol'beast. The tech has come a long way for the 80's since I last redid her...

How much can our stock drivetrains actually handle hp/tq wise... Its easy to get the power out of the 1fz, but I dont have the budget for a transmission swap as well.

a343f can handle being swapped out for a a442f which was built to handle a 20 passenger Jdm Coaster Bus !

alot cheaper to just swap in a real tranny

Well with the Diesel adapters kit I have a Cummins 6BT strapped to the front of it and it has held up well for over a year.
the stock setup is 190 HP and 400 ft/lbs torque, I put in the new fuel pin which is suppose to give "40hp" and "100ft/lbs torque"
I did put in the trans go kit to get better rail pressure and firmer shifts but that was after fuel pin.

I'm rocking a 240k mile a343f and plan to push it. Most worried about the torque converter and 2nd gear.

Torque converter because I lockup up early below 2000rpm and it stays locked down to about 1600rpm under 90% throutle.

2nd gear planetary gear set as the supra crowd seams to have trouble with big power. 2nd shifts hard and short shift it to not put as much stress on it but that just works the torque converter harder.

Wish I had a 100 series 343 with rail pressure/slip feedback and programable rail pressure via solenoid pressure control. I have my feedback cable locked out about 1/2 throw and max it out with full throuttle

Yes I'm only have a 4bt but pushing low end power holding 30psi plus through shifts and lockup.

Bigger turbos and posible twins in my future

Thanks cjmoon... From the other research I have done... With tge shift kit and a rebuild I should be able to handle 700lbs of torque. Now its time to figure out turbo build spes to not go over that... Let the fun (sound of money beibg sucked out of my account) begin.

So I have an LX450 1996 and thinking of doing the Cummings 5.9. What year Cummings 5.9 did you do? Are you happy with it? Any information you can provide be greatly appreciated.

Not sure why everyone downs the a343. With a quick/cheap transgo kit, I think it won't be the first driveline part to break. The older autos might be stronger, but to clarify that statement it should say - "the 440 transmission is possibly even stronger than the amazingly strong a343"

I have tried to break my A343F behind my Cummins, and it did not, mine is completely stock tranny

That's a tough test of the a343f transmission right there.

That is no small feat. The Cummins would routinely pound a stock Dodge 47RE into submission in less than 80k with wiped out torque converters, tail shafts, bands, and other odds and ends.

The cummins engines are wonderful but wiping out a Chrysler transmission is no major feat, pretty sure you could hook pedals up to one and I could use my legs to kill it. I've replaced 47RE, 46RH, and 44RE transmissions. For some reason they cannot build a trans to save their lives ever since the 727 went out of production, probably why Benz is making them for FCA now. The only one worth a damn was the AW4 because it is basically an A340. But I'm not sure even an A340 or A343 could survive long behind a well built 6BT, 4BT be fine though.

No one believes me but I am a firm supporter that an A343F is stronger than a 440/442. The Aussie turbo guys have all kinds of issues with the 440/442's and are going to expensive valve bodies and built transmissions, but my transgo shift kitted A343 just keeps on going.

That's really cool that it is holding the power well. Bouncing becomes expensive fast, usually not to a trans but definitely to gear cases down the line haha. I like my A442, but I had zero complaints with the 340 in an old runner I had. When you're making under 300hp there isn't much to worry about besides fitting a nice cooler on there so my concerns with the runner and the cruiser are minimal. I tow regularly with my cruiser and have had zero issues hauling all the way up to the limit up large grades through the PNW and Southwest. Would love more power but I've already decided the only way I'm breaking the 100% bone stock seal is to throw a 3UR-FE in, in which case I think I'd retain the 442.

That 6BT must haul though, ever want taller gears in the axle with all the extra torque to keep the RPM down?

Yes running 3.54 gears in a couple rigs around the country with 6 and 4bt’s . Many others running transfer case under over drive or 37” overdrive. I’m not wanting to keep $400 tires rotated and gears were my long term solution.
