what to look for when buying super low mile cruiser

If you’re “flush with cash” then who cares what it costs or will cost to fix it or any costs associated with it?

“Disuse is harder on a vehicle than misuse”

If a buyer requested that I pull an oil sample and send it off to be examined I’d tell them to **** off. It’s a 20 year old vehicle.

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you were asking 30K you'd probably be willing to go the extra mile. If it was 10K I'd agree.

How about a compression test?

I just emailed him and asked for the compression test too. That's a great suggestion.

I would just print off a copy of somebody else’s blackstone and tell you compression was perfect across the board. This isn’t a sale it’s a rape. I just bought a 160k 96’ LX for 3500. With it being so inexpensive I went ahead and had the head gasket, valve stem seals, chain guides and everything rubber replaced with brand new stuff.

For reference, I picked up a 97 LX450 that lived in Phoenix with 132K miles 4 years ago.
It came with a book of receipts from the PO, boxes of parts, hardcopy FSM, and looked like it just rolled off the freakin' showroom floor. Every single bolt still had the factory gold plating and there was not a single spot of rust anywhere. And trust me when I say I know where to look. I drove it home 2500 miles away and it ran like a top the entire way.

I still needed to throw $3K in parts at it to get it back to 100% and it still requires maintenance because it's 20 freakin' years old.

You're paying $22K for a $15K vehicle that is still going to need additional $$ thrown at it along with constant upkeep. Now, it's your money and you're choice, but this just sounds zany to me.

This is key for me. You say 22k is your "limit" so if you need an extra few thousand in repairs (which almost any 20 year vehicle can require at any time) you will be well over your "limit"

So this isn’t a private owner sale. This is a “dealer” or someone that flips cars. They know how to make turds shine.

If someone is asking $30k and willing to even entertain an offer of $22k AND provide an oil analysis AND compression test you have two scenarios:
A) they paid $7-8k for the rig and polished it up and guessed wrong on what it would pull for $
B) they overpaid, guessing wrong, and are desperate.

Both scenarios give me concern.

But, you are “flush with cash” so, do what you want. Just post pics and share your story after you get it.

Homeless last year and flush with cash this year. And then thinking about buying a 20+ year old truck for $22k. I must be getting old as I don't get it at all.
Sounds a lot like my son. Not much planning and thinking things through. Ahhh...youth.

Not such a bad price if one wants to sleep and live in it

I would suggest a van just to be prepared for the next time you're broke. :flipoff2:

If you're serious about this truck, just tell him what your price is. This thread sounds like "I can't find anything to nickel and dime this guy on, help me invent something." Fair market value is whatever a buyer is willing to pay and a seller is willing to swallow, doesn't necessarily have anything to to with tire tread or oil leaks.

I like the low mileage because it's not just low miles on the engine, but on every other part and piece. All rubber hoses have been replaced with OEM, all new custom leather, wood veneer isn't perfect though. The problem is I am just trying to get the price reduced some and am looking for the less obvious things. Like doing the blackstone oil test.

sounds like you're sold, what's holding you back?

is this the one?

1997 Lexus Lx450,would trade, fully serviced,Runs 100%

but also...

1996 Lexus LX450 124k

lots of nice lx470s in your area with much less miles, and less money, something to ponder if you want some luxury, and some capability.

Apparently this is “fully serviced” in New Jersey...

I’m don’t think this is how @jonheld repairs an air intake hose...

$23k and you can’t drop $40 on a hose?!?! GTFO!
