Spotlights fitted, low beam issue (2 Viewers)

Hello

I have fitted Stedi spotlights, and wired them to a Switch Boss old toyota style switch.

When I turn the low beams on, the high beams come on with them. But the high beam blue light on the dash does not illuminate. When I then put high beams on, the blue light illuminates but not much changes as everything is already on.

The spotlights have a piggy back jumper supplied by stedi that goes into the high beam bulb. I have ran this positive to the switch. The switch also has a ground and dash light illumination wire which are both supplied by the dash dimmer on the driver side.

I can not figure out what I have done wrong. The power in this circuit only comes in from the high beam piggy back connector.

Disconnecting the piggy back connector does not change anything other than that bulb obviously not working.

on my 80, the positive to the low, hi, and dash indicator are all fed by the headlight relay. so it shouldn't matter where you picked up power for the aux lights. hi bulbs and indicator grounds are tied together, so i'm failing to understand how your hi's are working without the indicator.

do you want to be able to switch the new lights on any time? independent of the low beam or hi beams? does the stedi harness come with is own relay? does everything work properly with the stedi's disconnected?

The Aussie headlight wiring is different than the USDM. The schematic was posted on this forum a few weeks back.

Where can I find the Aus schematic your referring too? I wasn't aware they are different.

No I don't want to switch them independently only because of road rules in QLD. They must be activated by a switch, only when hi beams are active

Yes the Stedi harness does come with its own 60A relay

No as I mentioned, when I disconnect the Stedi harness from the piggyback at the back of the highbeam globe it changes nothing.

It is very confusing and I haven't been able to figure it out. Obviously I've wired something wrong.

All I have done is add a piggy back connector (positive and negative) behind the passenger side High beam globe, ran that into my aux fusebox where there is a common ground. And then continued the positive into the cabin to the dash switch, and then another wire from the switch back to the fusebox into the relay coil. The relay coil has a common ground in the fusebox. The load side of the relay has a 30A fuse and then runs to the spotlights.

I simply haven't changed anything from factory and can't figure out what happened.

have a word to your local ARB, there are 3 small wires at your headlight switch in the steering column that one is tapped into to the trigger wire for the relay.

It's over 25 years since I did this and can't quite remember which of the three it is but when I 1st put IPF spotties on they advised this and its been working since then without a problem.

I since changed the IPF to LED spotties (using the existing IPF wiring) and LED globes in the headlights but had to put load resistors in line with the headlights in order to trigger the blue dash light which in turn activated the relay for the spotties. Without the load resistor the normal high beams (inner lights) came on but not the spotties or blue dash light

Thanks man I will give ARB a call and ask, this sounds similar to the issue I'm having.

I suspect it may have something to do with the power for the illumination of the switch I tapped into the dimmer switch but doesn't make sense really. Then thought it may have something to do with a negatively switched circuit I've found on my car but electrically it doesn't really make sense.
