Wayne,
I have met you once and have merely read a whole lot of your email so I am clearly not a good judge of your character, nevertheless, this is my read on your personality. I would like you to know that these comments are not intended to yank your chain they are just comments.
---granted
You're a big guy and have big presence when you enter a room.
---LOL!! so i am told...
You also seem to get bored fast (no insult intended as I too have the attention span of a bumble bee). So lets put these two observations together: a plain old stock 70 wont get the attention you like and it is boring and useless.
---hummm, bingo. that sounds about right...
This near new 70 will only impress a few folks, and of those they will only be those types that know what it is. A dressed up 70 has more appeal and will draw more attention universally cause all that bling just does. Also, a dressed up 70 has greater utility than a stock 70. Once again no insult intended as I too want to dress up my 70 for the same reasons. And lets face it a stock 70 is kinda boring, particularly one that you would not abuse because you want to preserve it.
---yep, one of the main reasons i have sold many of the cruisers i have bought. i can't stand having to worry about "parking lot dings" or other "ooops" that happen in everyday life...
Why keep it around if you cant use it in the fashion you would like? Yeah sure it is something rare and should be charished as such.
--- the main reason of my problem and this thread...
On the other hand, a stock cruiser is boring (yeah I know I said that already) and is not really an extension of your personality.
---agree completely
After all, a stock cruiser is what you look for when you buy to import and resell. Yup, nice stock cruisers, or at least that is what I have ascertained from the stock you have sold. There will alwways be another nice cruiser around the corner.
---but not one like this, these are rare and this one especially...
So here is my vote. No matter what you do, dress it up, store it as stock, drive it as stock, or whatever, you are going to get bored with it. So while you have it you might as well have fun with it. Dress it up and beat the hell out of it. If you have doubts ask yourself this: is there any such thing as a collectable cruiser?
---definately
If there is, is it accessable and marketable? Sure we all love our cruisers, but you really got to ask yourself, who beyond us freakjobs, would buy a cruiser like that and consder it a real treasure or a real collectable?
---to the right person, yes. but how long before the right person comes along?
Is there really a market for it? If it really was a collectable do you think it would have sold for the price you paid? Is it going to appreciate enough to pay for itself, your boredom and storage?
---yes, it already has BUT not enough to pay for boredom i guess...
If you want to collect a vehicle that will appreciate and be considered collectable sell this thing and buy some other neat vehicle on auction like an old mopar or mercedes or something. Even then, do you have it in the fabric of your personality to let it sit there?
---i highly doubt it... maybe if i never see it as in stored in a quonset under cover sheet
I tried it once with that damn Jeep I had. It drove me nuts. It just sat there in the garage because I did not want to dent it or get it dirty. In the end I sold it and used the cash to buy cruiser stuff that i could use and abuse. I did not gain or lose any money. I felt better when I sold it because i did not realize how much it pissed me off that I could not use it.
---when i bought the 89 BJ74 with 27,000 km on it i felt i would keep that one for life or till the first time i took it out when i went for lunch. i watched as people parked next to it and worried about the darn thing so much i had a rotten meal. i ended up selling it to the right owner and he loves it and babies it (he has a whole 2000km racked up on it in 2 years). i was happy to see it go to a good home.
I am sure that once you get bored with it you are going to either sell it or dress it up, either way you are going to feel bad because of what it once was. So why worry about it? Dress it up and drive the snot out of it, sell it then go hunting again. After all thats the fun part, the hunting that is.
---that is so true, it is not the aquiring of material goods, it is the locating of them...at least for guys like us...
Forgive me for permitting myself the latitude to assess you,
---not a problem, you seem to hit the nail on the head...
