Hi, has anyone converted a d4d from a Prado into mechanical pump? I have been a 73 series that did it in Norway and wanted to check which mechanical pump and injectors to use

Pretty sure the D4D engines were all commonrail diesels, so not really possible to just convert one to mechanical. They don't have an injection pump like other diesels.

If I remember correctly D4D is not an engine but rather a common rail injection system, available on a number of engines. Should be easy enough to look up though.

It would still technically be possible with a lot of custom work, but you'll be much better off with an older engine with a 'normal' pump.

Thank you. True, it is not the d4d, but the kd engine. Indeed it won't be common-rail anymore

The KD Series are 'D4D' common rail engines.

Doing this conversion is not a swap. It's a serious engineering project which will require bespoke part fabrication and in depth knowledge of diesel injection systems (and access to testing/calibration facilities). To be frank, the lack of even basic familiarity you show with these diesel engines makes it hard to imagine this is a viable project.

Perhaps you misunderstood what was done to this 73 in Norway, and it was just a manual pump swap on a 1KZ engine (the 73 never had the 1KD fitted). That is a simple task, but it doesn't make the 1KZ any better or more reliable.
