I just got a new craftsman tool bag for xmas. I will be using this bag as my main tool kit for when i hit the hills. I tend to overpack my current tool bag with everything and the weight of this thing is overkill. I wanted to ask everyone what tools do you carry in your tool bag. Can you provide me a list so i can work off of?

Thanks, also i drive a 06 LC

Rebuild your front end, including changing the CV....using JUST the tool bag.

That's a good start :)

there are several threads here about the same topic .. but I bet if you think you are overkill so far .. better don't get close to any of those threads ..

Haha, True. I will do another search on the topic.

Gorilla tape
1 roll of wire
1 wire cutter
1 small metric tool kit ( craftsman special, usually $10 on black Friday)
10,12,14,17,19 mm spare wrenches
1 adjustable wrench
1 flash light
1 small tarp (for laying on)
If you carry a spare with you all the time, then 1 breaker bar 1/2
21mm deep well socket 1/2'' drive
I pair of needle nose pliers
1 pair of channel locks
Box of spare fuses

The above are the most used items in my daily kit and will cover just about the majority of stuff you are going to fix on the roadside IME. When I go on trips I pack a much more comprehensive list of things because I know it will be up to me and whoever I'm with to get the rig fixed. Otherwise, if your in civilization and the above items don't get you going just pull out your AAA card.

Awesome, Thank You for the reply half k cruiser.

No problem brother.

I should also have added zip ties and channel locks to that list. Most of this stuff I've had cause to use in the last decade while out and about on the roadways. The wire is surprisingly handy as I've used it to hold multiple broken exhausts in place as well as a shock when the lower shock bolt broke on me. Vice grips are my latest addition after having to swap out a brake line on the trail last December.

Five min epoxy and some of that epoxy that will fix a leaky fuel tank I have epoxied leaking rads back together to get home and then not fixed them because it didn't leak lol

Cardboard is much softer than a tarp if you need to lay on gravel or tree roots, as long as you have the room. I can always shove a few pieces between my mattress and storage system.

Every trip to the woods seems to show me another addition needed to my already overstuffed tool kit. Giant C-clamps are the most recent. Something to keep in mind is if you've swapped any hardware that used to metric but isn't anymore - add an SAE wrench/socket set.

I carry a husky 110 piece socket set, breaker bar and extensions for it and gear wrenches. Along with the standard screwdrivers and front axle sockets.

If you run a SBC with a power steering pump with a press - fit pulley, you ought to carry the remove/replace tool. Otherwise, you will not be able to remove the mounting bolts and the pump is not coming off in the field. The tool set doesn't take much space and can save a ton of grief.

This is a good idea. I just installed the Saginaw kit from Georg on my 60 & was thinking the same thing.

I made up the gear to install the pulley, but don't think I can make something to pull it off. Someone said HF sells the pulley install/remove tool for $20 or so.
