What are there differences in the seats and dimensions between a 91-92 fj80 vs the later fzj80?

Biggest difference that I'm aware of is where the seat belts mount. For 91-92 the female end of the belt mounts to the floor independent of the seat. For 93-97 the female end is mounted to the seat itself, and needs to be incorporated into a replacement seat/bracket.

Mounting to the floor for all 80 seats should be the same.

Audi seats. 2014 I think. Haven't wired the power yet. Way, way way more comfortable. Lumbar support is good. The seats are bigger than the OEM cloth I removed.
Made the base like others with 1/4 x 3 inch flat stock. Bolted the old feet to the new steel base. Gonna have it all hot glued as well when I get around to it. Seats centered and dont touch doors. E brake handle is fine. I did remove some of the hump so that the seats can move for and aft, had to do something about the hump, which is part of the floor structure. You can see that part on a parts diagram online

Can you tumble your rear seats forward with the rail that far back?

I posted this up in the 80 forum - WDYDT. OEM and German side by side. I fabbed mine just a bit different (all welded) so it probably sits about 1/2” lower than @Tedward. His highlights well the length of the seat tracks - his stick out aft, mine more forward. If you had underseat heaters and pulled them, you’ll have even more room to go lower.

Can your rear seats tumble forward? my concern is looking rear bench leg space. I am really liking this option. The seat bracket looks stupid easy, its looks like two 1/4 plates with normal legs welded on. i think i could do this with no problem. did you just square the seat once the bracket was made and bolted to the body?

I dont know if the rear seats will tumble forward. Almost never have them in. But I will check soon as I'm putting at least one side in.
The rails could have been more forward. I think I went for roughly center of the travel. Anyways I've seen another mud guy and the rails didn't stick that far back. You could probably even shorten them. The amount of forward/back travel is generous.

Unfortunately, the Panther has moved on to another Mudder. But as memory serves, when I did the passenger side, the rear seat flipped forward and folded. The Audi seat did need to be somewhat upright, but it worked. PM me and I’ll put you in touch with the new owner.

Sorry, missed your 2nd question.

Two options really after you have welded the plates onto the Audi tracks. Bolt the cut/drilled out OEM feet into the truck. Put the seat in and you’ll see exactly where you need to “adjust” the trans hump bracket with a BFH (pull back the carpet from under the console etc..). Also, make sure the plates are relatively centered under the seat (back/fwd), if needed jumper the Audi wires to move it. Once you have it where you want it, comes your two options; tack the feet to the brackets in the truck (easiest, but depending on your welder, most likely to damage or burn something). Or you mark the feet/plates, pull it all back out, clamp the feet in place, measure fwd, aft, and criss-cross etc... “square”, then weld. I did it this way, disconnected the Audi motors (didn’t want to fry any electrics) covered the seat leather and underside with damp towels and welded it all up. My conditions weren’t ideal and the welder was wire-fed so lots of sparks, but it worked.

Only other advice I have to anyone going this route is take your time when you are moving the Audi seats in and out. They are big, heavy and awkward f*ckers and it’s easy to scratch up your interior or mash your underseat heater (if still in use or installed). Like getting a big couch through small doorway, kinda have to flip them sideways into the back seat, right them, set the back end down and then bring them forward. Sounds like I’ve nuked it, but that 80’s interior space got waaay smaller it seemed during the fitting.

One down, one to go

I cut the OEM seat brackets and used a piece of 50x5mm flat bar welded between the Audi seat rails.
Aim was to keep the seat as low as possible, so I cut the OEM brackets so the flat bar I used is just clear of the for pan.

I cut and folded the rib at the front of the seats for clearance for the Audi seat rails. Figured there's plenty of strength in the floor pan profile

Wiring was as simple as hooking up power and ground.
Set it up with a fused circuit. Blew a 10 amp fuse straight away, 15amp seems good.

The Audi seats have roughly 2" more travel.

I'll probably try to set the driver seat a little lower to the floor, and a little further back

Nice work - the black leather with your red truck looks killer.

The OEM seats that come with arm rests are the LR seats, is that correct? For those of you who installed the Discovery seats, is the pass side arm rest interfering with the center console?

Also, can the Disco switch panel be mounted to the side of the seats? I'm guessing not since @Rick80 mounted his panels to the center console.

Any other OEM seats with arm rests people are using in their 80s?

Any major difference between the Edge vs Planted seat rails for our 80s?

The seat bracket is completely fabricated. There is no real way to modify it.
