Is this a good oil to use in my 4 speed landcruiser

I'd say it's probably too low viscosity. 80W90 GL4 gear oil is what they get here.

If you have to pump oil into the gearboxes or differentials, make sure that the oil has been stored at room-temp. Whatever oil hand-pump at the auto store will be a workout itself, and it will be nearly impossible if the oil has been in the cold.

Facts.

It's a great arm workout. Takes about 30 minutes.

It's like shifting through cold honey as well when it's in the single digits outside.

Pumping… I’ve always cursed and squeezed it out of a quart bottle, and then the next, and repeated. Usual you can only get half or so in, and then you’d have to combine them until everything is full.

You’re all spoiled now… bet your school was down hill on the way there and down hill on the way back… :grinpimp:

Are you adding this or have you drained it? I run a Shell GL4 in the transfer case and transmission due to cross border movements. I had drained what was in there as I had no idea what it was or how old it was. I run a more common Klondike GL5 in the differentials and use a simple oil transfer pump to fill.

I bought a widget you dump the fluid in, pressurize the tank, and it pushes it out a tube.

If I were to purchase again, I'd go the next size up. I think it was less than $100. I tend to drop driveline fluids at least once a year and this thing makes that suck a whole lot less.

Awe, what will they come up with next. Heater kits that make it so your windows defrost & you have heat? Weather stripping so the wind doesn’t howl through your 40? Good headlights so you can see the road at night?

;)

I ran euro pattern Hella halogens for almost 25 years. Great visibility.

Heater and weather stripping need some more love still.

I have something similar and agree makes this task soooo much mo'better

I've used something like this forever. I put it on quart gear lube bottles, but I think it might work on gallon jug too. I buy a 1 or a 2 gallon jug and then refill the quart jug. You can squeeze jug.

I just swapped out the fluid in my three-speed transmission. I bought a quart of that Valvoline full syn GL-5 because it came in that little squeezy bottle. I couldn't see another way to get fluid into the fill hole without removing the transmission hump or rigging up some kind of elaborate tube or pump system.

Once I emptied the squeezy bottle, I refilled it with GL-4 80w90. So I guess if you average the two fluids, I'm running semi-syn GL-4.5 in a 77.5w90. :hillbilly:

So maybe it urban myth, but I was under the impression you were never supposed to mix viscosities. The advice I got this from was motor oil, but I assumed it would apply to all oils. Is it wrong?
