What is this? Dimond in the very ruff?

So I been doing some research on what parts are interchangeable with the HJ47. I'm hoping you guys can help sort out a few questions I have. My Internet back here in the bush is very slow, so sometimes I miss the obvious, so if its an simple answer just point my in the right direction.
1. What other axle, diff, hub and brake would fit and be a good match for the hj47?
2. The 2H engine seamed to have been used in early 78 troupys but in toyodiy the only parts that seam to be interchangeable are from 4*, 5*, and 6* models. What gives??
3. Would the TC from a BJ 40 with a B3 be interchangeable with TC from the HJ47 with the 2H?
Thanks for all your help and encouragement.

My three sons and I will be starting the build on this HJ47 very soon as it is know back at the house. So stay tuned

That is so friggin' cool!

of course you found a hj47 in the middle of the jungle in Papua New Guinea. Imagine the stories that truck could tell. Would you please photograph the stuff you find in it on tear-down/cleaning? I think there is a thread about that somewhere. Cruiser archaeology is awesome.

Good luck. Great find!

Cool. i would say it's definitely a converted troopie. Just going off the way the cab meets the quarter panel, with the rear wall from a ute grafted in for the lower panel. Have done this conversion on a couple of troopies . cool find, good score;). Is a natural resource.

Some inspiration:D Last one i did.

1; 75 series axles, centers and brakes should fit. housings are the same width just the spring perches are a bit further out on the housing

2; not sure

3; Should do as far as i know it's just the input shaft and bellhousing that's different on the 3B box

1: Heavy duty 70 series axles are (nearly) same with, but be prepared for relocating brackets etc. Done it...

2: The 2H can be found in Coasters too

3: It does, perfectly! Done it...

Great find, and a beginning of a great story! :-)

Thanks i am so thankful for all your help. There is no way i would even think of doing this project without mud. It is going to take awhile to get this rig finished because it is going to be me and my boys ( trevor 15 derrick 12 and Connor 11 ) and some of the village boys that want to learn some mechanical skills. It's going to be a great journey with a lot of learning along the way. So what do you guys think should I start a new thread or just continue here?

Chad Wells

Just continue here. You've got a catchy title and a great opening story!

We had 4 days without rain, that is unusual for us. So the "boys" and I went to retrieve our new truck. Because the road was "dry" I got the Mazda flat bed all the way to the village, with a little pushing and pulling with my LJ78. We went right to work. The goal was to take as much as possible apart so we could lift the chassis up on the back of the Mazda.

We started off with my 3 boys and 2 of there friends

Then a few others came to help

And before to long it was like a colony of ants at church picnic

We got the engine out and loaded. Not quite a cherry picker but it worked
Man is that 2H heavy!!

With every thing off that we could get off, we used 4x4 posts to lift/slide the HJ47 on to the back of the flatbed. Then we loaded all the other parts on too, and tied it all down for the long ruff ride home. One of the little boys sat in the cab moving the steering wheel around saying " I'm the first to drive the missionary's new Toyota " it was great fun!!

That is a great looking rig. I'm really torn between the ute conversion and a soft top.

Loading the rig on the flatbed was not to hard with all the help

Trevor and Ray started right off by taking the cab off. Some of the bolts were rusted real bad so they had to use the grinder.

Tell me about that tailgate!

Is custom made using a pair of cut down and sectioned barn doors, part of a front door and some one off bits and pieces i had to fab.
Have a heap of pics of how i went about it (about 50-60 i think ) but don't want to highjack monke south's thread with my shisit.

Needless to say there is a lot of time and head scratching in it

Looks sweet, maybe I'll start a tailgate thread so you can chime in.
