What is the largest tire I can fit with no lift? (1 Viewer)

My questions (which yeah, are probably in here somewhere) are about 285/7018s on stock wheels with 2 1/2" of lift without the pinch weld mod.
  1. Will they rub anywhere other than the plastic liner and/or the washer fluid reservoir?
  2. If the pinch weld is needed... how is that done? Same method as the old hotrod method - wooden baseball bat and roll it? Or is it less "elegant" involving a BFH?
  3. The 275/70/18 spare is already a tight fit under the truck. Does the 285 fit if it's deflated?

My buddy has 285/70/18's with stock +60 wheels (no spacers) on his LX. He only needed to trim the plastic around the pinch welds. His frame shows signs of rubbing at full lock but he said that was when it had 295/70's.

A wooden baseball bat won't touch the pinch welds, gotta get more aggressive with it. Search "pinch weld mod"

I would imagine a 285/70 spare would fit deflated but not all hitches were built by the same manufacturer. Remove the hitch entirely and there's room for a 35 under there.

Installed the Milestar Patagonia X/T 275/70/18 today and I have 1" BORA spacers as well. The manufacturer specs it at 33.4" and it fills out the wheel wells about as perfect as I could have wanted. I have AHC and it's tuned maybe an inch higher than stock, if that.

One of the guys I work with just put a 1-2" Dobinsons lift on his 2013 200 Series and is trying to decide on tires now. I parked them side by side to compare. His currently has pretty worn out 285/65/18 Toyo A/Ts on it.

Just wanted to get one final confirmation before I switch from Nitto Ridge Grabbler 285/70R18 to Falken Wildpeak AT4W 285/75R/16 (16" wheel is OEM from 2002 LC). Looked up overall tire diameter with this set up it is about a 6.2mm increase. I have1.5" lift with front Dobinson 783 shocks. I don't expect to use any spacers, just straight swap. Photos attached of the current 18" tires on, looks close to the upper control arm. From previous reads and asking around there should be no rub, but I wanted to check with the group one more time so I don't get last minute issues before getting them today.

smallest wheels that fit over the brakes, largest rubber that fits in the wheel well is the best way to go
I have 2005 with oem 18 wheels, going to change to 16" oem from a 2002 LC will the 16" fit over my current oem break?

I'm actually weighing 285/70R18s vs 275/70R18s myself. I have a 1.5-2" lift but no spacers and no pinch weld modification. Have you had any issues with the 285/70R18s with fit before now?

You’re good. I’ve ran 285/75r16 for 7 years on stock wheels and for most of that time on stock suspension. No rubbing. I’m running the exact tire and wheels you mentioned on a very slight lift (OME 2865’s with a slight torsion bar crank) without issues.
