Drove it

After almost two years off the road, i drove it.:steer:

Just have a couple of bugs to work out now:D

...and shackles too

I also put on some bigger shackles in the back. The 33's will not be rubbing on the rear fenders when i hit a big bump...it also corrected the rear end sag.

Finished testing of the RDB install. Verified that I need to install a speedi sleeve on my front output flange. Installed an M8 nutsert to replace one of the skidplate nuts that broke loose.

Talked to the PO, after finding out the shipping company I informed the transportation broker I was working with last week to NOT use, picked it up on Thursday. No return of my VM to the trucker, so my FJ is probably being cut up as we speak.

POs can be awesome

Finally took a wire wheel to the extra rear quarter panel that the PO through in at purchase, I thought it was a lost cause but looks like there's enough of the shinny stuff to replace my rusted out corner (and now enough bondo dust to make that scene in scarface look like an after school PSA). This is a +1 for POs everywhere.

Took my fuse block out, shined her up, put all new fuses in , cleaned every connection I could find under the dash, used di-electric grease on all above because I'm anal about such things.

Vacation weeks are expensive.

New front bumper, winch mount and winch. Had to remove the old bumper extensions and replace with new ones because one of the old ones was tweaked enough that bolt holes wouldn't line up.

Flipped U-bolts.

Cut and turned rear axle and TW drive shaft with CV. No more driveline vibration.

Removed bikini top channel after an aspen tree attacked my rig on a trail run and broke the straps on the top. The channel whistled constantly on the road. The straps on the top are toast and it's too late in the season to worry about getting another one. Got lucky on a trail cleanup run Saturday: no clouds, no rain. The hard top likely goes back on this weekend anyway (unless the forecast calls for sun and no rain again).

Planning on starting the motor after rebuild for the first time in 10 years!

I realize this thread is old but.... I flushed my cooling system, installed new thermostat w/ new gaskets & temperature sending unit, complete oil change, air & fuel filter change (genuine Toyota parts), topped all fluids off and took it out for a drive and now it over heats!!! First thought, maybe I put the thermostat in backwards like an idiot.... nope, it's in there correctly. Now I am thinking the Zerex flush messed up my radiator so I am going to take it out and have it tested tomorrow. It was running a little hot on my last hunting trip when it was 110 outside, usually it runs right between the 1/2 way mark (around town under 35 mph) and right at the 3/4 line (freeway speeds, 55 - 60 mph). Does anyone have any ideas?
and yes I checked the fan clutch and water pump... both are good.

first thing i would do is get myself an electronic aftermarket temp gauge so you can see where your temps actually are...

might have air bubbles in your cooling system after the flush too, or you bunged up something replacing the sending unit-

try the oem soft doors the PO change the canvas skin for aluminum..will use it like that a few days to see if i really want to stay with old school doors or put back the 76 doors(blue one) opinions will be great on which look its better....

Found out my expensive flexalite aluminum radiator didn't even last a hundred hours operating time. Don't tell my wife I am going to buy a new rad, OK!?!?
