Last Monday the test said I had Covid. I did get a tad sick, but nothing crazy, felt like a cold to me. But more importantly, that test afforded me a mandatory 5 days off of work!. Sure I had to use my own sick time, but I've got like 1400 hours cause I never get sick. I tried coming back to work this Monday but they said b/c I was still coughing, no go. Oh please let me come back to work! So, needless to say, I've been finding things to do on the 40. I started with the rollbar:

I had to wire-wheel down all the rustoleum rusty metal primer. Fun fact: although this site taught me that the 77 - 78 early rollbar should have been satin black, mine was positively gloss black, no question about it, lots of original paint under the brackets etc. So, back to gloss:

So today I went to check at the Toyota dealership to see if my new M10 bolts came in for the rollbar, but no dice. But I did get this nice consolation prize:

Other than that, and no pictures, I also fixed the one broken lug that I had on the passenger front wheel (of course with Toyota parts including a new lug nut), then I took it to town and got the tires rotated. Today I took off the wiper motor cover to do a "quick and easy" job (promised my girlfriend I would take it easy today)... Yeah the wire wheel taught me that the cover was eat up with rust. For now, I cleaned it up, hit it with some ospho, and did a skim coat of JB Weld for the pin-holes. Once that cures I can sand it down and it should be fairly decent after some Cruiser Corps T621 rattle can. Oh, I also tightened up the timing cover bolts, they "got loose" (how does that happen) and I was coating everything with oil. Er, I mean I had a correctly operating FJ40 anti-corrosion system coating the underside of the truck .

Noticed this gap between a linkage shaft and it's holder. Been there a while i bet. Went to my new favorite hardware store and bought a bushing. Bronze. Fit the shaft nicely, a little loose filling the bracket hole, so. A little Gorilla tape and grease and i was in business. That oughta take care of that lack of throttle response

Fluid film is superior to oil.

Fluid film is superior to oil.
10-4, I have that as well. Also I may have "fixed" the oil leak hopefully so the Fluid Film will take up it's duties :) . I'm finding a good Fluid Film treatment on the Speed Holes lasts about a year, then time to reapply. Down here in Texas I can find the regular rattle can size of Fluid Film at my local O'Reilly Auto Parts, but just a few at a time, so I buy them out everytime I see it in stock.

Installed a new ground connection from starter to frame. I wasn't having any issues that I'm aware of, but had read that it was a recommended improvement. (I sourced the No. 1 Bond Cable from Toyota Matt).

Also, installed a new turn indicator switch assembly (P/N: 84310-6022). The sole purpose was to address the fact that our existing signal was not cancelling after completing a turn. After removal of the old and installation of the new assembly, I discovered that the signals still were not cancelling. After a bit more reading (thank you MUD search function) I believe that I solved the issue by moving the switch assembly closer to the steering wheel so that the gap between the two is about 1/16" or so. The upshot is that I might not have needed a new turn signal assembly. Rather, the old one may have just been seriously out of adjustment ever since we acquired the vehicle.

Added a Bluetooth radio to the 2” roll cage. Locktite on all bolts. Hardwiring is next. Has a headphone jack and USB to plug into. Boss BRT18A. Decent sound for its size.

Working on reassembly. This week I refinished the steering column cover. Products used shown. Same ones I used for steering wheel refinish. (EDIT: this is ABS plastic so had to use Sand Free adhesion promoter product. The type of plastic really matters so select the adhesion promoter carefully. You have to read the SEM website guide carefully and it’s hard to find the right one. I’ll provide the link if I find it again).

Could’ve just bought a new one from the dealership. More than likely it is cheaper than the time and paint you put into it…
