@imyahucklbrry you are right but you also get coated in dust as does the rig. My Uncle also says I am crazy to put the top on-however I do like to be able to lock the rig up when out and about. Going shooting I have to have my guns locked up. Lots of guns here in Arizona.

@imyahucklbrry what neck of the woods are you from my friend? I grew up outside of Buffalo in western New York. By the way I really appreciated your responding to my hardtop questions. You and @sterling made it easy for me to take it on. I am waiting for the Dicor seam sealer to cure before the top coat paint.

I have received much help from multiple members here so I am tickled to be able to give back a little as I'm sure Ryan @sterling is also! My stomping grounds have always been Northern Georgia... Bet you had a some bit of 'adjusting' to Arizona after growing up where it's green! Been to Arizona, Grand Canyon specifically... beautiful!

BTW... in looking at your signature line, I see Confer rack listed. If you're mounting that back on your top, be aware that the Dicor seam sealer probably won't become rock hard... don't know if this will affect things with the rack.

If you ever get out to Arizona you and Ryan should look me up. I am also working on a '76 as well

I have been thinking about that sealer on the gutter and how the rack will lay on it. Interesting you noticed it on my sig line. It needs to be cleaned up before installing. Run a rack on your rig?

Today is the five-year anniversary of my purchasing it - so today I quit worrying about it and just drove it. Really love rolling along in this thing.

Man time flys! Seems like it was yesterday. I wish I had taken pictures of that 40 when I got it and started working on it. Looks better than ever!

Hard to believe it's been five years! You sold me a great machine, strong motor, everything is good.

Got lots of little things done. One of them the was the throttle cable. When I had the 5.7 I had it set up to use the stock GM throttle cable, and in a stroke of good luck the 5.3 OEM cable worked with zero mods. Gotta go on the road for 2 weeks, but lots of packages will be waiting for me when I get home. Running by mid-May is definitely doable.

This is a good call, and an important thing to be aware of Tom. Even if things seem ok at first, they can change once you've wheeled the rig with a load on the rack.

@65swb45 what is a safe weight load on my Con Fer rack? Never really planning on anything over 100 pounds. I have heard of folks having had 300 pounds on them before but that seems crazy, no?

Tom,

"Safe" is a loaded term. I am not inclined to speculate on such things. I can provide two anecdotes. I regularly put about two hundred pounds on the same rack you have when I camp with the karma cruiser. Which the plywood deck and the weight of the rack itself, it is over 300 lbs on the clamps.

On a smaller version I wheeled on my 60, I only had two crossbars, a total of 4 clamps. Gear Weight at about 150. Wheeled the 60 moderately with @bogus one and his wife. Discovered when I got home that I had buckled a lighter-duty version of the Conferr clamps.

I see what you mean Mark by safe being a loaded term. The quality of the clamps and number on each side, how evenly spread out the load is are all factors I take it......................Thanks for the input, appreciated. That said I still have plans for no more that 100 pounds or so on it

A rack? ...and give up my spot in the garage - no way! o_O

@imyahucklbrry ha ha I get that my friend! Mine would not fit in the garage with the rack on anyways I plan on just running it for multi day excursions. Tom

@tls3601 "What is safe weight load?"
@65swb45 "'Safe' is a loaded term."
