Got down to business - started tearing it down to address the PO's "V8 conversion."
Any suggestions for shifter removal? Not having a ton of luck with the "push down and twist" method due to the plate welded about 1" over the detent...
Regarding the shifter removal, since you're not planning on reusing it, you can sawsall or die grind the plate off of what's left of the shifter cane to get to the retainer. I bought a container of parts about 8 years ago that had one of those. I have enough extra shift towers that I just unbolted the junk and threw it away.

Pics from yesterday... another successful trip, with no technical "44" issues... just a very physical climb, over a number of slate shelves, to the top of the mountain.

Save some energy for next Saturday Danny! I have a tentative ' all clear' from the Mrs to go out solo on Saturday while she and the kids do the tourist thing.
Looking forward to it, Mark!
You just want to cruise or cruise and hike?
Gotta love the knuckle rebuild routine...You just gotta get down and dirty, good and greasy and make sure you bought plenty of good quality grease cause it takes a hell of a lot!I haven't started my rebuild thread yet, just been reading all the others and taking notes! haha. I will start one but for now a few pics of the tear down for the knuckle rebuild/front disk conversion. Inner seals crapped out in September. Doing one side at a time. Pretty fun stuff!

Removing the realitively new shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders and backing plate all in one. You can see the shoes weren't wearing evenly.

I haven't noticed safety wire on other builds but maybe I missed it.

You can see by the rim and damp look of the parts that the wheel cylinders used to leak pretty bad and the inner seals mildly leaked until they gave way in September.

The grease doesn't look too milk shake like but it has a more runny consistency than grease should.
Well I closed the garage door with my hatch door up and totally screwed up the hinges and then snapped of 8 bolts getting it apart. So thats what I did this week so I know what I'll be doing next week uuggg.

I did a "proper" brake adjustment on my drum brakes....Hung a strand of battery operated Christmas Lights from the roll bar for the kiddies and ordered a Lower Radiator hose engine heater for those hard to warm up mornings.....
