Hiked two miles to the end of this box canyon today... sure would hate to be here in a rainstorm!

I love your pictures mate!!
Thanks mate! I love yours too! That one there is a 4k drone shot of a '74 45 in Tarome, Qld at the foot of Cunningham's Gap.

Got mostuck of one half of my knuckle rebuild Done. Got to wait for another bare knuckle for the left side as the one I have had buggered caliper bolt holes.

Really! Gold.....that's 2 things I learned today. Gold...huh. Thanks for the link. How much difference, if any, is there in the finishes/colors between a 78 and an 80

Got down to business - started tearing it down to address the PO's "V8 conversion."

Old Chevy bench seat came out, along with the heater and about a 1/4in layer of dirt:

Gotta love this feat of redneck engineering...

Any suggestions for shifter removal? Not having a ton of luck with the "push down and twist" method due to the plate welded about 1" over the detent...

Some repair needed:

Might need to flush the block too, when the engine goes back in - coolant passages are looking pretty grungy...

Not a lot left to do to pull the engine -

Speedo cable, parking brake, shifters, carb/intake/fuel, clutch salve, brake booster, and power steering still need to get disconnected...then it's all over but the heavy lifting...

I haven't started my rebuild thread yet, just been reading all the others and taking notes! haha. I will start one but for now a few pics of the tear down for the knuckle rebuild/front disk conversion. Inner seals crapped out in September. Doing one side at a time. Pretty fun stuff!

Removing the realitively new shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders and backing plate all in one. You can see the shoes weren't wearing evenly.
IMG_1213.JPG

I haven't noticed safety wire on other builds but maybe I missed it.
IMG_1219.JPG

You can see by the rim and damp look of the parts that the wheel cylinders used to leak pretty bad and the inner seals mildly leaked until they gave way in September.

The grease doesn't look too milk shake like but it has a more runny consistency than grease should.

There has been safety wire on every landcruiser axle I've ever pulled apart... :D

Cleaned up the new to me air cleaner

Made the flap for the heat riser stay closed

used the other half of the 1/8 pipe collar that is welded to the block off plate, to shim the spring. So down the road

it can be put back in service. Now I need to find a longer carb stud, if they made one....guess I'll either find one or make one

I'll order the block off cap for the tube that fed the air pump along with the No.3 ventilation hose today. Hopefully I'll hear some good news on the tranny parts I need as well.
