In the future if you ever need to unbolt the steering gearbox how will you accomplish this since the bolt heads are not visible nor accessible?
This is just an initial mockup so I can see where I need to weld the plate. Looks like I need to trim it a bit. Anyhow I used 2 short bolts to attach the steering box to the plate so I could get it in the right location to stick into the 3 inch hole in the front crossmember.. Now that the location of the plate is established, I can work on installing some tubing through the frame rail so I can properly torque the steering box mounting bolts without crushing the frame.Nice work!

From the pics the steering box appears to be mounted too far forward... Where does the pitman arm reach too? Will it be sunk further into the crossmember?

Can't sunk it any more without notching the front crossmember to clear the hose fitting bosses.
Look at Downey's and other conversions... Most do knotch the crossmember and beef it up.

Slow day!! Cleaned up and waxed my rims..
Did some pretty awesome winter wheeling in the middle of a blizzard. Ahhh.. Sunny California. lol. It was DEEP at the top of the hill. Well up over my front bumper. I didn't get any pictures in the deepest parts because I was too scared to stop! There was a good 5-6 of snow on the roof and fenders when we got back to the highway and it was still coming down hard when we got home.
The only thing that was a bummer, was the heater core blew up (just after we left town) and I rerouted the lines around so we had no heater for the trip.. which.. REALLY sucked. My feet were so cold and numb my boot came off and it took me a few minutes to notice I was walking around in knee deep snow with a sock on. Fixing the heater today!

Spotcruiser-you got 10000th post...That's a magnificent number!!!!We need to celebrate!!!!!All I did today on my 40 was changing transmission and transfer case oil....It was easy,but took a long time...I have hump off so it was not too bad...

I've never wheeled in snow, please tell me... With my 30x9.5 tires, would I need to air down, air up, different tires, my head examined?
I have chains for highway driving, but would really like to get off highway, in the snow!

You normally air down to almost nothing. I was at 8, but have gone down to 6ish before in powder. This was pretty heavy slick snow, that I didn't really feel less air would do much for. As for chains.. I have no idea. I have only used them once, when I had stock tires, and they worked fine, but it wasn't nearly as deep snow as this is. Most of the time, forward movement isn't so much of the problem, as sinking is. Shovel, strap, winch or come along, and most importantly, a friend with another 4x4! You WILL get stuck in deep snow... so a strap and a buddy are the best thing to bring along. I wasn't alone yesterday... I just was blazing the trail and it was so deep I was scared to stop once I was going good so I was ending up really far ahead of everyone, most of the pictures are when I was stopping at flat spots to wait for them to catch up.
