Dieselgate just reinforced the reasons so many Americans won’t buy diesels.. and in most cases they don’t have a need.

Speaking of need.. for new 200-series buyers? Practically zero need for an aux tank. How many of these end up in our hands in great shape because they just did soccer mom duty previously? They dwell in cities. Even among those of us that go off-road, very few truly need more fuel tank range. Yes a few would tow, heavy, on the freeway.. but what percentage? Why would Toyota spend the money to develop that system? It’s not a good investment. It wouldn’t sell more vehicles.

And the diesel wouldn’t either, to the vast majority of new buyers, between the increased cost, perceptions of a it being a dirty fuel, etc. Even with the better power at altitude (again, how many people does this impact?) how many more 200s would they sell to justify the huge cost of developing and certifying that engine that makes 100 less hp where most people will use it? Keep in mind how most Americans buy cars.. bigger=better.

Yes, ultimately it’s about finances. They know they wouldn’t have made money here in the states with those design choices.
Quit ruining my rant with logic dammit!

Oops...

They're still great trucks? Colorado allows you to build refineries in your back yard right?

I tackled the valley plate seal this weekend. 177k

Spray cans… 10oz or so I believe… I can look
This was a rattle can job.. but I did both whole bumpers, well what’s left anyway after the bumper cuts…

I should mention I left the Hi-lift dent intentionally.. it's painted but I know I am going to hit it again at some point, just because of how the hi-lift sits and the swing arm design... . so I left it and did not try and plastic weld it..
thought about it.. and doing filler was a solid no on a flexible plastic panel..

Done with the crappy wipers that Safelight snuck in with a windshield replacement. Couldn't even save me the blade so I could just replace the insert.

OEM blades ordered for $26 per from local Yota dealer for pickup tomorrow.

Very timely post as these have been on my to do list that I’ve been procrastinating on.

Just to sanity check, it's possible the later model year 200s have a different rear part number? Confusing thing is they seem to overlap in model years.

85242-42030 for 2008-2016
85242-60130 for 2015-2021

I have 2 vehicles that need this remedy. How bad did it suck?
Wasn’t too bad, the egr pipes on the firewall were tough to get to. I loosened the driver side first and pushed the pipe out of the way. Then moved air pump to that side enough to loosen the pass side. I used an S wrench for a couple of them.

Seen a lot of “Prinsu and Ironman 270’s don’t play nice” but when I could pick one up for less than a normal awning, had to take a shot. Fits like a glove with the rear tab on the Prinsu chopped off, trunk spoiler impinges a little on the fabric but not a deal breaker. Never had a bad time with beers and an angle grinder.

Took my new-to-me 2013 LX to a well-known Houston shop for much-needed attention at 95k.
  • Post-purchase inspection: No unexpected issues, everything checked out!
  • Front shocks (these were leaking heavily and it was clear from the steering feedback something was not right)
  • Hydraulic fluid (AHC fluid had never been changed and with the shocks, it had to be done)
  • Oil change
  • Transmission fluid (this was done by the previous owner at 51k and the mechanic confirmed they had only done a drain & fill and not a pump due to markings on cap(s))
  • Front and rear diff fluid (this was never done!)
  • Coolant
  • Transfer case (was done at 51k; opted to do it while he had it)
  • Outer belt tensioner replaced (was getting loose; the prior owner had mistakenly replaced the drive belt at 51k vs the tensioner)
  • Alignment
  • Torqued/lubed everything
  • Checked battery
  • Lubed steering wheel motor (it was "grinding" when turning on and positioning itself)
  • Washer fluid (zero degree rainx)
Tomorrow I replace the 10-year old tires with (probably) Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 LT 285/65 R18 after picking up 2015 LC 18s from a local forum member today.

The LX drives like a different vehicle now... I thought I was maybe biased but when my wife drove it, she agreed it drives "so much smoother and seems quieter." Thanks to folks on here for pointing me to a good shop.
