A little off topic... BUT for you speed demons out there coming through WY on I80.

Just a heads up here in WY... Since I-80 was increased to 80mph a couple of years ago the troopers/state highway department have recently made a ZERO tolerance policy for the 80mph zones. So... 81mph is a ticket now.

FYI for those traveling through the Commonwealth of Virginia, 80mph is automatic reckless, even on I-66 or I-81 where the speed limit goes up to 70. Also 20 over is reckless (except in a 35 mph zone where it's 30 over, for some reason).

Virginia... the only place in the country where going 10 mph over on the highway is a felony.

I've heard about Virginia for years. I pretty regularly drive to NY to see friends. I set it at 8 over and let it ride.

Bought these today, complete with the lugs, key, and socket.
Tires are 1311 date code.
Now to decide:
Nitto, Toyo or BFG?

Chased down a few bad electrical connections and replaced the wiring with new high quality harnesses. Also installed Slee's group 31 battery tray and fitted an Interstate AGM7 deep cycle battery in anticipation of the ARB fridge which should be here soon. Still got a few things on the list before Moab in less than a month!

Snokeled up. Drilling the fender was a complete leap of faith. There's a small gap between the snorkel and the A-pillar, so I can't tell if the 2013+ body is perhaps slightly different than the 2008-2011, but it fits nicely against the quarter panel right up until the A-pillar. I haven't taken it on the highway yet but unless the slight gap itself creates a bunch of wind noise or whistling it won't be a big deal.

I had my lx up to 90 this weekend with mine on and there was no noise. I have a similair looking gap there.

Cool thanks, that's good to hear. I'll get some highway time, but not until next weekend. I expect any accessories to add some noise, but sounds like it shouldn't be bad then. I'll let you know what I experience, @mcgaskins.

Love that color
Thanks man. Originally I wanted dark red, but it's really grown on me. It's especially good at hiding dust and winter salt. I think my only complaint is that the 4R3 touch-up paint I ordered from Toyota is NOT the same color as the vehicle - it's more gold-er.

If I ever can get a 200 (see signature), toss up between while, gold, silver. If I could ever find one in blue i'd be on it...

Ordered one of these as the first piece of the power puzzle. A killer deal popped up so I jumped on it. It's a 2000W (3400W surge) inverter/charger/auto-switcher all in one. Roll up to a campsite, it'll charge the spare battery off of shore power and/or use shore power to power everything. Unplug it, it reverts back to battery power. Pretty cool device. I just need a place to mount that big bastard. Also, I did NOT pay anywhere near $1300 for it. :)

Looks to be an active week or past couple weeks for a lot of us. At some point I'll consolidate everything I've done but for now... these past two weeks I finally got to swap my suspension. Did the work myself with help from @chap79 and a big assist from @RET2 who lent me one of those new Milwaukee cordless impact wrenches, can't say enough good things about that tool. I think I underestimated the project, I worked a couple hours a day mid-week and went at it hard for a weekend. Initially felt like I was in a fight with a razor blade against a guy with a machete. I've never done anything like this, even though it's pretty much "bolt off/bolt on" I still ran into hiccups and needed some liquid courage along the way. I suppose it really wasn't that bad in the end, but just make sure you have all the proper tools (I know crazy concept) and there are a few spots along the way which are a PIA (ie... fitting the LC stabilizer links into the Tundra LCAs, and reconnecting the stabilizer bar/links via messing w/ the KDSS hydraulic pumps, and the UCA through bolt took a bit of finagling, especially since I have the Slee primary tray installed which had to come out). I only lost one bolt that I had to replace. I also took the time to do a baseline of maintenance (sitting at 86k) since I'll be heading out to Cruise Moab at the end of the month.

Scope:
  • Front suspension - OEM Tundra IFS parts, Total Chaos UCAs, Bilstein 6112s
  • Rear suspension - Fox 2.0 IFP shocks w/ OME 2721 springs
  • Tough Dog adj. rear pan hard bar (got my rear to dead even)
  • Crown SS brakelines - front, rear, rear drop lines
  • added matching spare
  • Maintenance: oil/filter, lube, rear diff oil, transfer case oil, front diff oil (pending because of stripped plug, gotta thank previous mechanic for that one), engine air filter, cabin air filter, bleed brakes, alignment
  • wash and wax
Holding judgement on ride quality until I can get some time behind the wheel but so far in limited action me likey.

Someone recently posted a thread about how it might not be KDSS fault, and might just be tired springs. Well even at 4 years old I think I had some tired springs, had a pretty good lean both right to left and front to rear. I tried every KDSS trick I could get my hands on and nothing got me close. After lift I am dead even left to right and nearly even front to back. Also to note, my suspension settled 1" in front and .5" in rear within the few days it was sitting finished in the garage prior to alignment. I did jounce it a bunch and loop the cul de sac a few times. So far I've gained 3.5" in front and 1.5" in rear, and I expect this to come down a bit over the next few weeks.

First thing I had to do was purpose an old costume, served as a perfect mechanic suit.

Then I got to work.

Great inverter!

Super happy with my smaller, 1500 Watt sine wave from Go Power!

Now get as BIG gauge and SHORT run wire as you can, since voltage-drop is your enemy... :)

I'm toying with the idea of mounting my 2nd (or 3rd) battery in the rear somewhere, maybe underneath, to cut down on battery to inverter length. We'll see. I still have another $800 in parts PLUS a battery to buy before tackling that project.
