Here's my "DAY 1" experience so far.......




I took over the ownership / maintenance of our family 2001 LC as of last night..... My wife's new car went into the warm garage, and the trusty LandCruiser had to spend it's first night in many years out in the cold and snow. No problem, I figured..... LCs are awesome machines and I can't wait to do some driving in the fresh snow with my unstoppable machine!!!!

It took less than 3 seconds of cold cranking to deflate all of my dreams and aspirations..... the battery was dead.

So.... instead of enjoying the drive to work in the LC, I took a trip to the local Interstate battery dealer and picked up the MTP27F (stock replacement size) and will spend some quality time installing it at lunchtime. The temps should be up to around 10 degrees (F) by then!!


Also, just because I know I'm not the only one around here with this issue.....let me share a photo of my JBWeld-customized ignition key!





Good times! Hopefully my "DAY 2" will be better..... LOL

Removed running boards, roof rack, rear spoiler, and fender flares. I have had my hundy for about 4 months, and I have to say I should have done this the weekend I bought it. It looks so much better without all of that "stuff".

what year is your landcruiser ? I have a 2000 ujz100 landcruiser and looking for a right side mud flap and roof rack parts?

LOL.... Yeah, awesome-terrible!

My wife kept bringing me the broken key, and I kept glueing it back together. At first, I could do it with superglue but over time, the cracks got more rediculous and the repairs got more desperate... No way I was going to spend $200+ for a replacement key at the dealer!

Then I stumbled across this site, and found a thread about replacement housings on eBay. They should be here next week, and I can do another "hardcore" mod to my LC!

Instead of dealing with replacement housings that will keep breaking, just get an Eternity key. I think mine was something like 60 bucks, cut and guts transferred, from the dealer. Lifetime warranty and you'll never have to worry about it again.

Installed slee rear bumper and swingouts. Its a complete kit for sure. Had to persuade the bumper a bit (looks like the driver side got hit by the PO). Other than that just had to chase threads a bit to remove power coating. The weight settled the OME 864 springs down a bit.

I thought it was available for both. It appears to be the same design just with a different key blank so I'm surprised it wasn't available from the start. If it isn't available yet, perhaps a few emails would speed them up.

The Eternity key looks like a slightly "rubbery" housing in the videos I watched. I'd prefer the smooth plastic housing of the original key, and for $9/pr for the eBay ones the repair is as close to free as you can hope for.

It's been a while since I had the key apart to study it, but it seems like one of the weaknesses of the original design were the voids molded into the case on either side of the metal key... The torque of twisting the key head caused distortion on those areas, which ultimately allowed cracks to form. Hopefully the new replacement keys don't have those voids....if they do I'd be tempted to put a bit of JBweld in there to beef them up.

I have a landcruiser eternity key prototype and it is not "rubbery" it feels very solid. Yes emailing would help. I deal with alot of lexus dealers and I asked one to call for me and they got me one to try. I love it and would pay full price for it all over again.

I put in new hood struts, got a new key (the Camry or? master that CDan recommended), and did the pin 7 mod while looking to see if the windshield is leaking and causing all the warning lamps to do the funky chicken on my dash.

As usual the car performed flawlessly and did it's job.

A kit to reboot the axle with grease about $50. Contact a supporting Toyota dealership.
