Update on my Micro D2S retrofit: Holy moly - when you flip the high beams on, you can see into the FUTURE they're so bright! The low beams are awesome too - SO MUCH BETTER than the stock headlight setup.

I redesigned my 3D printed caps to allow the ignitor wire to exit downward (best for water ingress protection), and will be kicking out a set to @Zuberg for him to do a retrofit with here soon.

Definitely an excellent upgrade to the LX!

This is an updated cap - the final version (that Zuberg is getting) actually has the wire rotated a little further downward too. These reuse the OEM O-ring that the the original tailcaps use. There's just enough room to sneak these caps in front of the battery on the drivers side.

Did you take any before/ after of the light output?

Those always arouse me.

No, but these AI-generated surrogates are pretty close.

New control arms & panhard bar! I decided to spend a bit of money and skip the hours of rehabbing the old control arms. All-new OEM parts & fasteners. A bit of a job since the diff/axle would shift rearward quite a bit during the job and require a come-along winch to drag it back in order to get new bolts through the rod ends.

Did it improve the ride? Mine looked just like that.

I changed diff fluid in mine today, greased the drive shafts and trailing arms. Made a list for Spring projects, we're rolling 350k in a few weeks.
I’ve got the timing belt and some other miscellaneous stuff scheduled for next week to get me through 300k. These little things are pretty amazing.

Does anyone by chance happen to run one of those dash carpets in their 100?

Something like this:
Yes, I went EBay and its a terrible fit. I tried to return it but i was past the date so I just left it on. It protects just fine but its not a quality fit. I have a about 2 inches of overhang above the radio and about 2 inches short where the dash meets the glass. 3 months later and it still doesn't lay quite flat over the passenger airbag. 25.00 whatever, 45.00 no way.

Something like this:
Yes, I have one of those on my white 100 ('99). I live in Central Texas and the truck is parked outside 100% of the time, wanted to protect the dash which is in excellent condition. What questions do you have?

Happen to have any photos? My rigs parked outside 100% of the time too granted not in Texas heat but curious how a grey or black might look to cover up so much beige.

Nothing too strenuous, but some of you may recall me stripping out the heavily stained and generally filthy carpet and trim out the boot of my 100 series. Going back a month ago I swapped out the upper tailgate seal, and the seal which goes all around the boot opening, plus did a semi-successful reseal of the 3rd brake light. I did this because there was evidence of a long standing leak but just wanted to address all potential causes!

I wanted to reinstall the carpet but alot of the 3rd row seat mounting brackets on the cargo floor were heavily rusted and generally needing some love. I gave them all a wire brush and used rust converter to clear up the final bits before giving them a coat of anti-rust paint to keep it all at bay. I did the painting last weekend, so finally got round to putting the rear carpet back in properly (it had been sitting in the boot without any of the trim fitted).

The carpet isn't great condition, a tad threadbare in places but it's much more presentable and something I may get replaced down the line but for now it's fine. The 3rd row seats are safely stored in my garage out of harms way, and I don't intend to refit them anytime soon, so I'll be seeking out a decent cargo liner - anyone know anywhere that does them with sides that go up? I'd be interested to know what people are running in their boot!

Sorry for the crap pictures, it's 6:40PM here and the lighting makes everything look pretty grim.

In other news, I found out today my shipping bill from Japan for colossal amount of parts is going to be circa £850/$1039 + a scary amount of VAT & Import duty, but that will also mean I have enough to keep me busy for the next few months, and still cheaper than buying from UK Toyota Dealer.

Holy moly, I ordered several hundred parts from Impex once and it was like $300 for shipping - lots of small stuff though. What in the world did you order?! Haha.

Probably the heaviest/most delicate stuff you can buy for these :D

Big ticket items:
- Steering rack
- Radiator (+ all hoses, clips, t pieces etc, waterpump, thermostat
- Front upper and lower control arms, drop links, random bushes and everything like that
- All rear control arms + panhard bar, rear drop links, brackets etc
- Every conceivable bush outside of the ones included in the above
- Every conceivable bolt, nut, washer etc for all of the above jobs
- Diff pinion seals
- timing belt & associated parts, oil filter, oil filter socket
- lots of other small bits that get very expensive quickly!

Being sent in 3 packages, the radiator will be by itself to prevent any of it selfdestructing.

I only received a load of other bits from Partsouq yesterday for this too.

I've had to buy a lot of tools recently to equip myself for some of these jobs, but that was still cheaper than the labour associated with these bits of work. Putting aside the rustiness of half of the parts on it now, after I factored in my time and parts for replacing bushes vs buying whole OEM lower/upper arms etc I opted for the latter.

I've got a long list (including the above parts) of jobs to do between now and June when the MOT (annual roadworthiness inspection) is due. Currently it wouldn't be pretty so I've got my work cut out!

I've got a chat tomorrow with a local farmer I know who has a big barn, I'm going to ask him to use it over a weekend in a few weeks to swap out all the control arms and do the brakes and bearings at the same time too. I need to start spraying some of these rusty bolts etc very soon as they are all looking sorry for themselves.

Later this year, I'll have the luxury of a double garage, but right now we're living in the middle of a city with a driveway on a slope and no suitable workspace.

Sounds like some work for sure! If you haven't gotten a good battery powered impact wrench, I'd highly recommend it for a lot of the suspension work.

I will say though - the rear control arms you HAVE to loosen from the bolt side - the nuts have teeth on them that'll prevent them from rotating. I about rattled my teeth out before I realized that....

I replaced all of my back seat attachment hardware and fasteners because it had all started to rust (some of it badly, no doubt from having hauled bags of water softener salt). None of it was very expensive, and getting rid of the rusty pieces really cleaned up the back.

It's the little things! 🤣

Thanks for the heads up ref rear control arms! I'm going to take your advice on the impact wrench, I've been looking for an excuse to buy one :)

🤣🤣🤣

A more accurate suggestion has not been uttered.
I'm not going to be able to ignore 2 recommendations! *takes out credit card and sighs*

I bought all new bolts and nuts with my rear control arms, because I didn't know what kind of shape they'd be in when I got them out. So far they've looked only moderately rusty, ha.

Thanks for this, didn't know you could buy those brackets but should have realised everything is available!

I'll probably do this in slower time! For now I need to make sure the car is going in a straight line and the wheels don't fall off :D
