I've had my back up camera in this general location for a year or so but finally mounted it a little more permanently. I really like the subtle look and the higher view it gives me. I had it down low but Hells Revenge made me realize very quickly that was a bad idea (4th photo-camera on left). The OEM camera bracket fits perfectly up against the inside of the deflector but the image was upside down with the orientation of the camera internals. I unscrewed the cap and spun the camera lens 180° and put it all back together.

Don't blame you. I got lucky. Mine went out the day after we were off road for a few days and drove a fully loaded vehicle down the west side of I80 going 80 followed by a couple heavy laden semis.

I hate to think what would have happened if it had gone out that day.

All this talk about brake boosters going out, makes me want to tear mine out and get it refurbished now. Im unsure of the age of it, but I assume its the original at 222k miles.

Replaced rear hatch struts, resealed the brake light with butyl rope, wired in a door switch override to kill the puddle lights as needed while camping:

Added under-hood lights, which took much longer than it should have due to tearing apart and re-building the generic harness:

Waiting on work and house projects to slow down to dive in to further lighting and audio wiring.

I bought a rebuilt brake master assembly with pump from Andy Le who frequents the Facebook group 'UZJ100' three years ago and had it installed at 330K as preventative maintenance. No way I want to deal with brake failure while being out in the middle of no where!

Dont want to open a main thread for quick question re the battery. What support do you have under/around it? Just had to replace mine and found it riding on a flimsy thin bent plastic board - it doesnt seem standard?.

i like the idea of a box - my batter somehow cracked and leaked acid all over. box would help catch/contain that.

The plastic tray is OEM. That is mounted on a steel frame below. The battery is held down with the hold down bracket that runs across the top. The tray is designed to catch any acid that might leak out since it is highly corrosive.

The box that is shown in the parts catalog snip is an insulator box typically used in cold weather.

Yeah I hear that guy is great. Does he sell rebuilt ones? I thought he only rebuilt what you sent him. If so, that's good to know.

Replaced all of the screws in both of my key fobs for accessing the battery. Tiniest screws I've ever seen. I went to replace a dead battery in one fob to find a stripped screw, then checked the other and found both stripped.

My Slee main battery upgrade is waiting in the garage. No flimsy plastic anymore and a bigger battery

Usually Andy has one or two on the shelf he can sell to you plus core charge. Once you send in your old unit he will refund the core charge.

Its been awhile but my memory says he charges US $650 plus a $200 core charge (refundable once you send him your old unit.)

With new OE units going for US$1,300 and up it is a good deal.

I second this. Three years ago I had Andy Lee rebuild my unit and it failed four times before I finally rebuilt it myself.

On the bright side, I had plenty of practice removing, shipping, installing, and bleeding these units. I wound up spending more time and money than it was worth- would've been better off with a new unit. Do it the right way the first time.

Is the full rebuild kit something that's easy to buy? Even if replacing original with a new one, I'd be tempted to rebuild my original just to have one on-hand...

You can get the rebuild kit, seals, piston etc for $150ish from japan. I think there's a source on ebay for the motor rebuild kit. All in might be $3-400 to DIY rebuild. If the motor isn't too worn can just re-do the seals. I'd just buy a new unit over a rebuilt for $650 but that's just me.

Past week I swapped out the front and rear bushings on the sway bars, new rear shocks. All Toyota parts. Can't believe the original shocks 'lasted' 220k miles. While they weren't blown out, they took about 2.5 times as long to extend from full compression compared to the new shocks.

Truck rides so nice now. Will swap in the new front shocks in the next couple days. Was originally going to sell the 2007 cruiser when I wrap up my 'restoration' on the 2006 but my wife came home from driving it the other day and now wants to sell her Subaru. She has named old man tan 'goldilocks'. My boys call it 'Mater' (think Pixar 'Cars' movie). Makes me laugh every time.

Also took my boys fossil/shark tooth hunting. Just rolled 223k.
