It occured to me scrolling past this that if you were of a type to grab the wheel, plant both feet on brakes and PANIC STOP- that could do that to a steering wheel. Also could explain any messed up clocksping, etc., in there- as those aren't exactly meant to get yanked on like that, and any side-loading could have led to the premature fail.

Just wondered. We will never know. 😅
Side loading is an excellent point. I had not thought of that. I was thinking maybe when the wheel was rewrapped that when it was removed it was jerked really hard and bent. Once replaced it may have been over torqued damaging the clock spring and since it looked better than it did it might have been accepted by the previous owner. The collar around the shaft (sounds dirty, I know) was misaligned and crammed/crushed into place assuming it damaged the tilt function. Telescoping still works but the tilt is inop. It is not the motor because they will run by hand or with my power tool battery outside the vehicle. I replaced the motor and switch only to have the same issues. Who knows? Tomorrow is a new day to explore the hidden gems of the LX470. Maybe I should call this thing CSI Miami since it came from Miami and it's always something lots of forensics can solve. And I can put on my sunglasses super cool like David Caruso.

Yes, it is a portable camping braai grid..I am awaiting the 20x20x1.5 square tubing to finally build the three adjustable legs...will upload a photo when it is completed and where I am braaing meat on it..
It looks great- if it was me making, I'd find a way to bevel up the outside edges (shot bag/ hammer?) for two reasons: a) keeps it tighter to the tire, less likely to catch something/someone going by or prematurely wear a cover out, and b) keeps me from inadvertently pushing my hot dog off grill into the dirt. 😅

If your hot dogs don't see dirt, are they even worth eating?

I've got this exact issue. Have to turn the volume to 20 and slam the door shut and it kicks on. What section of the harness is that located?
It's in the door jamb where the bending occurs when door is opened. Pull the kick panel and driver dead pedal unplug the connectors 4 on my 99 lx, remove driver door panel and speaker, pull the harness through open the taped loom and find your culprit.

My new fuel tank arrived, painted it with some self etching primer (holy smokes, i was amazed big box store had some, last three times, empty shelf, thought I'd have to amazon some), then some rostoleum farm black followed with some truck bed liner. Original fuel tank skid is garbage, so I am trying to beef up the fuel tank with some rattle can action. I researched it, basically it's around 400-500 for a fuel tank skid with shipping was the best I could find, can't stomach that for a piece of stamped steel. Fuel tank inlet hose/pipe couldn't be salvaged, so partsouq to the rescue, with shipping saved 50% compared to a domestic dealer: sigh.

Edit: Rockauto fuel tank seems pretty dang legit, stamped made in taiwan. Maybe compared next to the rusty hunk of chit next to it, it looks like a prom queen, but initial impressions is for a bit over 300, it's far better than OEM at around 800... price wise, time will tell.

Helped my buddy install his new rear dissent bumper after a long 6 month wait 😅. Thank God we had my 200 rear to cheat off for the install

Didn't @MongooseGA just scoop up one of those ASFIR skids for his tank? He could probably tell you how awesome it is.

It's been really great at leaning against the new fuel tank on the side of my house. Highly recommended.

Found the culprit of the clunk in the front end, that lower arm bushing is shot.

If this was you, would you go to re-bush or full lower arm assembly replacement?

Do you have an easy way to press the bushings and ball joint? If you do go ahead and refurbish. If not, but a replacement assembly.

A shop press I think can do the job for pressing out the old and pressing in the new, which I don’t have. BUT, we have a local Meineke auto shop about 100 meters aways that has that. Just need to know how much they would charge for a bushing press in/out service since I can do all the component removal and install. The lower ball joints are fairly new.

I would expect somewhere in the 100-200 ish range. I've had arm bushings pressed out for free because I caught the guy at a good time.

Or buy a press. They're super handy.

If you are mechanically able, purchasing the press looks like the cost of the shops labor. The only downside is space, that press eats up some space in my tiny garage.

If it were me I would replace the bushings. I have never had a bushing just press out though. I always use a torch to remove the old bushings. Pressing new bushings isn't too bad. I use Hornady One Shot case lube to lube the bushings when I install them. It works a whole lot better than grease.

I paid a local machine shop abt $60 to press two bushings (one per LCA)

You could look into making a homemade press out of acme rod, the right sized socket, nuts/washers plus rent a ball joint kit for the receivers. $50+-. For the arm bushing you’ll have to cut off the flange first but after that it’s a few minutes of cranking a wrench to get it out. Reverse order to press the new bush in. Same tool for the no.2 frame bush.
