Just wrapped up replacing the front diff bushings, was actually a whole heck of a lot easier than I thought it would be. Spent about 20 minutes whacking the front bushing with a hammer and cold chisel. The new bushing went in flawlessly. Didn’t take more than 2 minutes to press that one in.

Was a lovely and frosty low 30s as I worked outside. It started to snow also lol.

Tomorrow I’ll probably work on installing my new scangauge 2.
How'd you luck out like that. Getting that bush in so easily

I'm not sure. The Land Cruiser gods must have been out of office on vacation lol.

I read that some people were having horrendous trouble getting the new ones pressed in, anywhere from 2-3 hours. I used a dremel to lightly remove some material around the lip and applied some grease to the bushing and the hole on the diff. I lined up the bushing so it was completely level and starting pressing it in. I made sure to hold onto the press so it didn't shift as I tightened the screw.

I wish I got it on video; it was the most effortless bushing install I have ever seen in my life lol.

Haven't posted in a while, so a few updates......

-Finished up replacing all 8 coils with Denso units. Got them for $48-$56 each. Given my experience with aftermarket coils on an Audi I had, OEM was the only choice here. All 8 of the old ones had slight vertical cracking. After new plugs and coils I haven't noticed any MPG uptick unfortunately.

-Got a set of LT285 75/16 BFG KO2s at the beginning of the month. Stock ride height. After a lot of consideration (and peer pressure from a buddy with a Raptor) I pulled the trigger and couldn't be happier. Best tire I've had on any of my off-roady vehicles. About a 3rd of my daily commute is on a semi-twisty gravel mountain road by some ranches, with the rest on pavement...... they're awesome.

-Scored a set of of OEM front shocks on eBay for about $85 shipped. Apparently they were gov't surplus (????) somewhere in Montana. Still wrapped in sealed Mr. T packaging. Going to be installing them with the front swaybar bushings & links when it warms up a bit. Planning on t-bar lifting the front end about 1/2- 3/4" to very slightly as well.

-Finished removing all of the faux-wood trim on in the radio and console area. Looks amazing; should have done it months ago.

Think you need to give an offering to the LC Gods lol. Come over and spread some of that luck on my rig 😁

Reuse or replace?

Replaced the bushings in the rear sway bar. They weren’t shot, but definitely showed signs of wear and I prefer to start with all new bushings in a used vehicle. Hopefully later this week I’ll get the rear (upper and lower) control arms replaced. At that point I’ll have a replaced everything except the upper shock mount bushings.

After 10 months/5,000mi finally drained and filled it with new motor oil Motul 300v 5w30 + Toyota OEM oil filter part # 90915-YYZZD3 and boy the engine vibration is immediately canceled out. Like very fine wine again. This is one of the few reasons why for me the 2UZ is butter than the 3UR.

Got my cruiser towed. Saddest day of my cruiser life...

We were wheelin' around in the snow. Got into a ditch doing a u-turn and when climbing out heard a god-awful snap, whine and clunk coming from front end area. 4-Lo but the CDL was off (I just forgot to turn it on, didn't need it for where we were so I guess I just never thought about it). Truck wouldn't move, just whine, spin and clunk noises. Turned on CDL and climbed the rest of the way out of the ditch. Limped back to camp with a clunk/chunk noise every few rotations then limped to gas station (about 3-4 miles from camp area) with the noise getting louder.

Plan to dig into it this week. Fingers crossed it's only a shaft or splines but the noise pattern makes me think it's the diff. I've been reading up on front diff threads but any suggestions on the order of teardown to find the issue?

Cheers,
rjones

Spent a few hours installing my Christmas present from my wife. Installation isn't bad, it's the drilling that makes me apprehensive, but all in all it's a good bit of kit. The only thing I did change was replace the supplied M6 philips head bolt with an allen head bolt. Makes for torqueing down the bolt a whole lot easier without worrying about stripping the head of the bolt.

Having had this happen recently, there are two ways that come to mind for diagnosing this--you can a) pull the drive flanges and drop the front driveshaft and see if the noises go away with the front diff not turning or b) drain your front diff and look for metal in the gear oil. Either approach includes things you'll need to do anyway to get the diff out of there. . . which it sounds like you do.

Sure sounds like your diff is history. Consensus is that a rebuild with a locker is the best approach--I went with a Harrop e-locker, and love it. No hoses, no chasing leaks. But apparently there's an insane ring & pinion shortage right now, so not a great time to have this happen.

If it is the diff, and if a rebuild is going to be a PITA to schedule, you can buy a couple months by grinding the teeth off your hub flanges, dropping the front driveshaft, and just driving around in RWD with the CDL activated. . . .

Looks good! Next I would say is the rear wiper to sweeten the back end look.

Heck if I have a good discount on anything, I’d take it. Liquimoly has a hood reputation in the racing world, just that been with Motul for more than 2 decades now including my past bikes and have had good experience with it so I keep coming back. That double ester is something else.

@OEMGUY0720 agreed, i just asked my wife i need oil and she of course buys what she uses and the shop uses so i'm not going to complain.

Rear wiper - you mean wiper delete? Do they have such a kit? I have a Golf R and they sell a delete kit for that one, would be interesting to do that on this tank.
