I got an alignment at Auto Innovations in Milpitas after getting new tires last week. Anyone in the NorCal Bay Area looking for a good alignment shop check these guys out. They came very highly recommended on other forums. My alignment turned out to be pretty good to begin with so they charged $60 even though the initial quote was for $100.

Symptom is fuel gauge indicator fluctuates, sometimes it’s all the way down below empty, sometimes it’s accurate where it should be.
Did that fix the fuel gauge? I have same issue and going to replace the fuel sender unit. Thinking of replace the alternator before upcoming big bend trip. 191k 04LC

I just got back from a quick errand. Put the keys on acc, started it, below empty again even when running, got to my destination 3 miles away, got back home and still the same. But I know for sure I have I still have a quarter tank left. Oh well, next stop: fuel sender assy. At least the battery and alternator is something I won’t have to worry, for now. ha!

Interesting, that makes sense and thanks for the info. Napa website says 0607 is their available part but nothing about the 1099. The only time I got that info was when I came by their store to pick it up and pay, or maybe I didn’t read the whole description lol. Hopes are high in this reman but expecting for the worse, did gave up the old one (core) though.
Most of us are running reman Denso by now. A New Denso is $550-700, depending on who you buy from!

I am running a reman Denso. ($160 including shipping from Amazon). My original alternator was dying on a road trip. So I replaced it with some cheap POS that O'Reilly had on hand. I knew when I did that I would eventually have to get something else. 9 months later the POS started dying (had a long warranty, but I just tossed it) and I got my current Denso which is about 2 years old. Seems to put out slightly less voltage than the original but still in the correct range.

That’s awesome. These are wear and tear components and I am totally blind as to the old alternator’s history, no clue at all so I just felt I needed that peace of mind. Also, I felt I had to rule out the alternator possibly causing the problem. At least I’m closer now in solving the fuel gauge mystery.

I don’t know about spending 700 for an alternator, honestly that’s a bit steep for me. I’d roll my dice now for a re-man and see if this holds up (hopefully the odds favor me with this one lol). Anyways, back to topic, got some foldable shovel to pair the GoTreads.

If it's not internal bearings, it's super simple to replace the wear parts internal to the alternator for way cheaper than even a reman.

The bearings and brushes are easy and cheap to replace. The regulator and rectifier are not.

On this edition of “while I am in there” the LC finally gets some much needed parts after 20 years and 230,000 miles

Work was slow today so I decided to knock out a project I had planned for this weekend in between calls.

First thing was the LBJ. If you get a LBJ with a full snap ring instead of a c clip, the pictured snap ring tool makes life great.

Everything else replaced includes CV axle and diff seal, drive flange and gasket and lastly, the UCA. )The inner and outer tie rods with boots were replaced a few months ago so I’m not sure why they look so old already)

Now excuse me as I go lay in bed and cry because now my back hurts and I still have to do the passenger side tomorrow

Well done! The other side will be easier since you have already finished the learning part.

The tie rods look like shìt because 555 parts are known to be painted with hopes and wishes instead of actual paint and get covered in surface rust in about 3 seconds!

Finally realized a decade+ goal of having a Lightwerkz HID retrofit project on a vehicle of mine.

OEM+ Bixenon build using OEM glass lamps and excellent aftermarket lighting components. Really happy with the look - I feel like this is how our top end 100 series should have left the factory in the 2000s instead of equipped with those terrible halogen reflectors.

The beam needs some additional trial and error tuning but the difference in light output is candlelight+fear of driving after dark —> smiling when I’m rolling around in the evening

Anymore pics of this TJM bumper? Looks great.

Spa day for my intake. Been snowy and cold and was 60s today, some gave my intake a good scrub.

Reinstalled my cleaned injectors and reman starter. Replaced a bunch of brittle and broken electrical connectors. The injector connectors were a real pain to replace.

Ended the night by putting a dental pick straight through my index finger.

Among all the activities that are banned by the boss, this ranks absolutely among the highest. Almost as bad as tires in the living room and equal to engine parts in the dishwasher
This was just a rinse after a few hot soapy scrubs in the rubbermaid container outside. The tube was cleaner after I finished.

You gotta set those expectations early on. I'm only engaged and not even living with mine yet so I've just been leaving some things on the bathroom vanity when she's visiting. Call it conditioning.

Oo, my friend you have no idea, do you? A fiancée is not "the boss", even a new bride is not "the boss". Your current false sense of security, is how she is conditioning you! Sorry you had to hear it from me.

More on the topic, @Jczajka was there a need to take the intake off? like a leaky intake gasket or replacing the starter?
I ask because my truck as a mice nest under the intake but when I consulted with Paul @2001LC he was really against the idea of pulling the intake unless there is a real need for it. He was of the opinion that it can cause debris to fall into the cylinder head.
