Spent the last few days taking care of all the battery connections. Often overlooked, but for safety and reliability, keeping all your connects in order is always a good idea!

Looks good, did you build the bracket for mounting the breaker and switch yourself?

This last photo is aligned just so, and it looks like you have a tiny snorkel coming off the bumper. For some reason, I want one now.

Was able to get my Goose Gear 2nd row seat delete in this weekend. Since I have a drawer system and not their cargo platform I had to do a little redneck engineering to tie it in to the drawer system. Still have some work to do and plan on coating the wood with a “Bed Liner” type coating to match the GG Panels. Happy with the way it’s turning out so far.

So I made a thing today....

For some time now, I've been concerned about the theft of my rig after hearing that even with the transponder key anti-theft system (that sounds impenetrable enough), Land Cruisers are still being stolen (even locally) by experienced thieves holding the right tools (replacing the computer, etc). Knowing that, I wanted to make it as difficult as possible to run and drive (here at home, or out on the street) even if that system was bypassed. Leaving the thief with either towing or pushing it down the street as the only way to move it.

I know it won't run without the fuel pump fuse intact and in place, so I made a harness the replaces it with a remote fuse wired to an on-off switch. Ultimately, it's just a deterrent for someone who actually knows how to diagnose, but who's going to do that? It certainly increases the complexity of stealing this particular vehicle- right? If somebody who really knows what they're doing goes looking, this is obvious. But the average dirtbag won't even know to look. If it doesn't start, that will likely be the end of it. Any thoughts on this?

wait what, landcruisers get stolen? first time I'm hearing that.

Got out for a quick overnight to get our new pup used to the idea of road trips and nights in tents. She did awesome!

Dark Canyon - SM - 002.jpg

We ran a quick route from Monticello through Bears Ears and Dark Canyon, and exited below at the north end of Lake Powell. Most of what we own now has a very fine layer of red dust on it.

Did the first oil change with M1 EP 5w30 w/ oem filter.
Next time i will take off the ASFIR front skid, you can access the filter without dropping the Skid, but get ready for the mess.
Greased every zerk.
Hit the rusted exhaust resonator with rustoelum rust converter, very sastisfy to not see that rust when im walking up to the truck. Also hit the body mounts, didnt want to mess with the wire brush on the accumulator, but that rust is ugly

maybe some Corrosion X or similar might arrest it.

Headed to work this morning and my LX ran so rough it sounded cam'd haha not to mention it was literally bumping around while idling... after checking front to rear for issues, changing the oil and filter, and plugging up a code reader I figured out cyl 8 was misfiring. By this point I'd limped all the way to O'Rielly's where the manager sold me a spark plug for $8~ .. I changed it out but it still ran rough.. went back in and bough the coil pack ($80 with 10% off cause they felt bad for me haha) and that did the trick. Purrs like a kitten!

The old spark plug I pulled was Denso and all the coil packs are Denso (assuming the rest of the plugs are too).. I replaced the one plug with NGK and whatever no-name OE coil pack they had. The manager was telling me NGK was the best for these types of motors, is that true? I'm going to replace the rest and not worry about it anymore haha

Do I still need to wire up the front locking diff, yes!
Do I still need to install the ASFIR skid plates, yes, yes!!

So naturally I spent my time and money on installing an Ironman awning. I hear they are necessary to survive cold WI winters!

I made a mistake, I guess. Haven't done much to the truck itself lately, been busy and working from home has it parked a lot. The mistake was to try to organize the $$$/ time I want to spend on the thing over the next few years, and it adds up to way more than I spent on the truck itself.

So it goes, I guess. $2-3k a year in modifications is a lot more fun than $2-3k a year worth of car note, at least.

Reindexed torsion bar and replaced stripped adjuster and bolt. Cranked the TBs to have 1.5” droop. I wanted 1”, but ran out of adjustment on the passenger side, so I called it a day. At some point I’ll add weight to the back at it will even out.

Flushed the brakes and the power steering. It was interesting that the fronts would only push a bit of fluid at a time, like traditional brakes, but the rears would continue to pump (with key on). I’m not sure I understand the why on that.

I'm sure ngk is good, Japanese and good quality. I'd replace the rest of the spark plugs to match. Or put the denso back in.

Replaced the passenger side window switch. Super easy, cheap non-toyota part, works awesome.

Took the passenger side front hub apart for inspection and refresh. Was long past due but not destroyed, cleaned up and regreased and put it all back together. Ordered a couple seals and will get back in there and do it proper. Used my homemade spindle greaser to get those inner needle bearings. The flange was beat to heck by prior mechanics getting the cone washers out, so I resurfaced the side that gasket goes on and it really needed it to get flat again.

Second round of power steering flush. Used the LC2001 method, disconnect the return line and redirect to a container, raise front end and turn side to side with engine off, refill into the reservoir. Fluid was black almost immediately after the first time about a month ago, I think it was never changed. But now staying red and clear, so much better results. Mobil 1 synthetic ATF, also added some AT-205.

Found some prime day deals on led bulb replacements so I took a chance. Some were a tight fit in the stock housings and I’m not sure exactly how long these will last with their integral fans enclosed, but they look good for now and are definitely brighter.
