It's a 72. The LX is the fuel efficient one between the two!
Today I decided to put the factory wheels back and and went to a smaller tire. The previous combo (305/65/18 + XD Wheels) weighed 93 lbs, and the OEM 18's with (275/70/18) Wrangler Duratracs weigh 82 lbs, so 11lbs shaved per corner. Having the KO2s for so long i'm loving this setup, truck feels much more nimbler and acceleration has improved a lot. Could be placebo as i'm trying to justify my decision lol. Just drove it around earlier and i smoked an old Paseo off the line. Will calculate MPG gains later, i will miss the looks but i'll enjoy the ride more now, @tacoduck will be proud of me putting these OEM wheels back on.

I put the heavy and wide setup on the Tundra. The 5.7L had zero issue moving it, barely felt any difference.

I used rotary buffer from harbor freight
make sure light is wet once you feel the difference on the sandpaper meaning once the sandpaper glides on the light move on to the next grit.
Buffer speed 2000 to 2500 rpm
dont be stingy w the 3m restorer lol
If you remove plastic around light be careful as mines where brittle.
I chose silver, to blend in a little, didn't go with the red all in your face ones hehe...it's not so bad, besides peeling the "toyota racing development" letters one by one is going to kill me.
Anywho, i'm digging the new look, we'll see how the Duratracs do in the snow compare to the KO2

If you ever decide to remove it I would highly recommend getting a 3M Stripe Off Wheel. You just stick it in the chuck of your drill and go to town on any adhesive emblem. When I repainted the side of my truck I had to remove my TRD sticker as well and it got rid of the whole thing in about 30sec without scratching the paint. I kind of like the sticker there though so I may replace it

That shot makes the stock LX wheels look gooooood.
Here's my project for the week. Rear coolant bypass leak, preventative starter replacement, new pass side valve cover and new gaskets/seals galore.

I guess i am the minority here, I love the black wheels on the LX better but I totally understand the switch due to functionality. I am a sucker for black wheels on a white truck.
I'm with you, i loved the way mine look before, the aggressive offset along with wide tires make the truck have such a good stance. However you pay for form over function, you'll rub when tucked, truck feels really heavy and sluggish, braking is kinda scary too and the truck wanders at high speed. Normal person might not notice, but I look for these things when i compare so that's what i notice.
You're going to replace the starter even though the current one is working? That's OCD stuff lol. I think i will do the same at 200K miles, replace starter and fuel pump before a long trip. I saw that the Alternator has been replaced at 150K so that won't be on the agenda.
Starter, fuel pump, or alternator fail on a road trip and you're in a lot of trouble...
Yeah, I've had TWO alternator failures mid-road trip with the family in my 99LC. Both experiences were miserable and very expensive. The $189 for the Toyota reman is nothing compared to the $$ and annoyance caused by a mid-road trip or mid-trail failure. I'm already doing 90% of the labor for a starter replacement so I figured now is the time since the current starter is believed to be original with 217k miles.
An ounce of prevention and all...
Replaced interior lights with LEDs from Amazon.
I did a little PM over the past few weeks:
- Had the brake fluid flushed.
- New brake pads.
- Cleaned battery terminals.
- Checked the heater-T's, coil packs, and spark plugs. All had clearly been replaced at some point in the truck's life.
- Replaced the fuel filter.
- Replaced the air filter.
I did the same—had everything apart for the rear coolant bypass gaskets (mine weeped a little). No regrets on replacing a perfectly functioning starter. 195k at the time.
