SILVER Star
That's an understatement! I've always been intrigued by the area since I first went out there about 25 years ago exploring the old Pony Express route in my old Nissan 4x4 truck. Ran into a guy hiking Ibapah this week that was researching it for a book he's writing on the US Coast and Geodetic Survey, which used the peak extensively for mapping the 39th parallel in the 1870-1880's. The shelters on top are from their work sites, and they even made small flat spots just below the summit (12,087') for their tents. Amazing stories of work under extreme conditions. I like the area for the remoteness. Not too many areas in the continental US as sparsely populated and out of reach as that area. However, I could pull in a cell signal from the top of Ibapah on Sprint , but from there not until Baker....Nice! That's an awesome part of the state. Even if you're from Utah, not many people go out there.
and I took a left...
