On a return trip from Kansas City I stopped off at a random exit in Utah called 'Miller Canyon' and found some nice wheeling. Around the same time hit a nice round number on the ODO.

I'm about to get a pair of these to modernize the look of my 01 LC, what do you guys think?

Did you post a link and I missed it? If not could you please? A lot of variability in this stuff through the china/ebay pipeline and I would like to do the same.

The fake wood trim thingie started flaking so i took everything off, it was quite a bit of work. However i had an idea of just letting the truck sit in the sun all day, by 4pm all the glue/tape were soft and i took the remaining parts out pretty easily.

Put these on today. Was going to go with different ones but got a steal of a deal at the Toyota dealer I work at. They were take offs off a brand new Tundra so pulled the trigger on them. I'll get some bigger tires when I do a lift in a few months. Also tinted the windows and installed a back up camera for the wife when she is driving. Slowly but surely.

There should be foam bridging the gap between the paper cone and plastic frame. As you can see there is literally nothing left.

I think he was being sarcastic lol.

Mine are shot too, how easy is it to replace the speakers, and what size are they anyways?

It's very easy (or was in my '06). Also very worth it - mine looked about as bad as those posted above, so as you can expect they sounded awful. Check out this thread: Affordable speaker upgrade

I followed the instructions in that thread and ordered the same RF speakers he did from Crutchfield. I only replaced my front drivers' and passengers' side for now cause they were the only ones rattling and driving me nuts. $50 for both and 2 day shipping. They also included what they thought was the necessary wire harness to make it truly plug and play, but the harness was not correct. I just cut the harness out of the existing speaker and connected it to the new one with some wire nuts. The only difficulty that I had was fitting the new speaker into the existing surround - you can only put 2 of the screws in because the holes don't line up perfectly (again, this is in an '06' LC), but you can still get them very secure with 2 of the screws. I'm very happy with these speakers so far and it probably only took about an hour and a half - most of that was figuring out how to get the door panel off the first time, which there is also a great link for in the above link.

6.5" speakers. What year is your Cruiser? 98-00 (I think) you have to cut the speakers out of the spider frame to mount them up. Rear doors speakers on these early Cruisers also require you to remove the cardboard isolation from the spider frame to get them deep enough so you can reinstall the door panel without the speakers holding it off.

The later Cruisers you simply unscrew the speakers from the frames and mount the new speakers directly to the frames. Of course.... there is some wiring connections to make, but that is pretty straightforward.

Something is missing! Sold the rear BIOR, had my trailer tongue fixed, now on to the rack and another rear bump!

So I'm pretty sure that the speaker sizes were different for different years/builds because everywhere i read on the forums said 6.5 for front and rear on my 2001 LX but the rears were much smaller. This isn't the cleanest solution but I just drilled new holes and mounted 6.5s on them anyway. Fits fine if they're turned the right way. Pretty easy job as stated above, remove the door panel and cut the wires from the existing speakers and solder/crimp them up with the new speaker wire and its good to go. Whole job took me about an hour and that was almost all removing the door panels.

I used these speakers from Amazon and was really surprised with how good they sound. I used to work in car audio 10 years ago and thought these would be garbage for the price but they're better than a set of $200 infinities i have from back in the day. Amazon.com: Pioneer TS-A1676R 6.5-Inch 3-Way Speaker Pair: PIONEER: Car Electronics they're not the best on the market but for the price i'm really happy and they fit right into my mounts. The tweeters were a little taller so they touch the door panel but they have little grilles on them so its fine. I also have an aftermarket head unit so if you're still stock you may not have the same sound quality results i did.

I have an 2001, how many speakers total do we have?

I think they all have a sub in the back, two speakers in the rear (mine was a woofer and a separate tweeter in the same housing) and the front has a woofer down by your feet, a mid by your knees, and a tweeter by the window. The mid/tweeter were fine but i put a three way speaker in to replace the woofer and it just helps fill the sound a little more.

So we have 2 fronts, 2 rears, 2 tweeters, and a sub in the 3rd row area? My speakers sound like someone stuck a card in a bicycle rim and spun the tires.
