What does this detail tell me about a 40 series?

I have seen many 70 series in Indonesia. Look harder.

.

I don't know Sparkplug. You must have Superman X-ray vision, or you're posted in areas with mining or logging operations (Papua, Kalimantan). I've now lived here in Indonesia since 2002, have visited 22 provinces, and I have yet to see a 70 years in those years. Look at the for-sale ads and there no 70 series at all One, perhaps two Bunderas are the closest thing you'll see. Yet, you've seen not one, but two BJ42 while sitting back havinng a drink in Kuta and have seen many 70 series. I can say that where I live, in the inner islands, Java and Bali, there are no 70 series. Plenty of 80 series, but 70 series, nah. You make me wonder. Can you please tell me where exactly (bar and street) where you saw the two BJ42 and where I can get a 70 series on Java or Bali? Thanks.

I am not trying to get into a pissing match here but I have seen many 70 series in Indonesia. I have been to over 70 islands in Indonesia over the last 15 years and they do exist and I have seen them in Bali as well. I was only trying to help but I guess I came off as an a**hole. Sorry, I just stated what I knew and could have reworded my post in a more diplomatic way. Good luck with your search for a Land Cruiser. As far as the so-called "mod" that is exactly what it is unless it is a late model 40(maybe- I only give this credit to Downey because he is not new to the scene of Land Cruisers and has given me sound advice for many years). I have visited many countries that I am 100% positive that they are only a "mod" including my current BJ-40 that has been modified by the previous owner in regard to the turn signals. I have also owned 2 other BJ-40's that were modified by previous owners as well when it comes to the turn signals.

No problem. No offense taken. That being said, I am still interested in the street in Kuta where you saw the two BJ42s and where I can get a 70 series in Java or Bali. If you know where I can get an HJ47 or an HJ61, that'd be swell also.

The two 42's were around the Bali Hyatt. The Hyatt that is closer to the airport. I do not know the name of the street. The guy who owned them may have just preferred 42's over 40's and does in fact have 2 of the 10. I was just bringing it to your attention so that person who was trying to sell you that red one didn't try and lie to you if he was the one who stated that only 10 were imported into Indonesia. Just trying to look out for a mud member.

I only travel to Indonesia for vacation so I am not there very often but do have friends that live there and I will tell them to keep their eyes peeled for a 70, 47 and 61' cruisers for sale. Again, good luck with your quest to find a LC.

Can you post pics of these brochures? Are they only for the 84' 40 series, being that the 70 series started in 84'?
Sorry,I can't, that was just too many moons ago. I worked for TMS in 1969-70, then Downey was a Toyota vendor up until 1992. During that time I saw alot of Toyota product info the USA is not privy to!!

Interesting...

I don't know whether they were factory or not, but I do know that that I saw that style of blinkers on a 1976 (bj40?41?) that had been brought to the USA from Honduras. And judging from the rest of the vehicle, I rather doubt that whoever owned it did much in the way of mods. It was pretty trashed! Didn't notice the hood latches being difficult to use... Either way though, I think that they are pretty cool looking, wouldn't mind having a set!:) (Well, maybe the hood latches were a little different than what I thought...)

Twoturtles: that hole just above the 70-style lamp looks suspiciously like an original hood latch mounting hole...:) But I only see one?

I do remember definitely shortening my hood latches now -- cut about an inch off of the latch end of the inner rods and welded them back together. That's how I avoided having the latch that close to the fender.

I was wondering what that was... I can't remember if there was one on the other side or not.... Oh well! Wish it had been in better shape, I'm a big fan of diesels and would have loved to have bought it! It needed a new tub at the minimum, and I just didn't have the money, place, or parts. Oh well, one of these days....

Friend just got back from Costa Rica and took a picture of this one for sale, looks pretty stock and original. Starting to believe this was an option in some countries, also staring to like it as far as an offroad light less likely to be ripped off or busted.
