Ok so I am spending some time today and fabricating a couple holders for jerry cans which my gf is getting me for V-day. Anyway I am trying to figure out where to put them. What do you guys think? Heres a pic with a couple otions I was tossing around.

#1 would give you best visability but possibly a poorer departure angle

#s 2 & 3 would be better for departure angle but raise the center of gravity and cause blind spots.

I would go with #1 with them mounted large side against the Pig. Thus keeping the center of gravity some what down (considering you already have a huge tire way up there), and not really hurting your departure angle.

Yeah I thought about departure angle a lot. The cans are going to stick out further than the bumper. By about 2" heres a couple more options I was tossing around once I built the holder. #6 inside the bed would have to be the best but it takes away room I was going to use to make a storage box in.

I'm with raintree; #1 on a swing out rack. My second vote would be for #2 but on the drivers side so it blocks a little less of the view.

Cool build up. Any other pics?

My tailgate is non functional anyway so I can reall stick them anywhere on it. I'm getting 2 cans so I either have to go 2 wide 2 deep or one on each side whereever they go.

Not to rain on your parade - why didn't you bring the cage down inside the rear and just cut holes and tie into the frame? I like the look you're going for ... but don't think you're gonna be happy with no rear access. Where are you gonna drink beer when tailgating?

Tucker my tailgate was never really functional it was so rusted up I couldnt get it to swing down without a BFH so I just cut it and welded it in place. Those rear posts that come down are attached to the bumper which is attached to the frame. As for tailgating this is 2006 we bring chairs.

I still like sitting on the back - we've got this really cool pub in my neighborhood that is grandfathered in so you can drink outside. It gets really crowded in the spring/summer and everyone circles chairs around in the parking lot. Pulling up in the Cruiser and having a pint on the tailgate is almost a daily occurance (150+ beers on tap ;) ).

Wish I would have known about your tailgate - I would have given you the one from my '73 (not pretty, but works).

Oh well - carry on with your usually scheduled program -

Seems like I saw a pig awhile back that had jerry can holders mounted in the rear fenders (Inset) Looked kinda funny but if you saved the outside piece and put interior hinges and a little latch it could work out pretty good..
FWIW,
Dan
