I’ve got a pneumatic rivet gun you can borrow. I also really want to know what will upset some people….

That might come In Handy, I assume it’s for the smash type rivets?
I thought about making a tool for my air hammer like I’ve seen in other threads.

I have had this thought of a integrated roof tent top on a 40 for a while. Basically a pop top. Without the hole in the roof. Keep the tent low as possible.

Build my own drip rail, build a basic sheet metal top with supports to bolt my tent rails down that attaches using factory drip rain location. Something that when they tent is on it it’s all the way down to the windshield and roll bar. Able to remove and put the glass top back on when not needed. I know weight will be an issue. My tent is about 200 lbs with the awning.

You know full on broverland.

My 5 year old always falls asleep in the 40.

I have had all of the vehicles you can imagine. Kids sleep in the wildest places, I love it. I wish we could all be more like children. There are so many things we can learn from them, they have not learned the wrong way to do things. Movement patterns for example.

The one that got my kids no matter what, any drive longer than 10 min and they were asleep was my 79 Ford camper special. 460, 35” mud tires, 3” flowmasters dumped under the bed. The drone of tires and big block was the song of cruise snoozes.

Also skreddy 40 thread needs some love. I haven’t seen it in a while 😉

Always looking for possibilities in the YOTA family. 3FE has always been in the mix.

You holding this one for an eventual swap or as an “option”?

Read through your post ref: 70yr old/loaner 40. Righteous gesture 👍👍👍

A 3FE and trans popped up on here 1.5 hours from me. I messaged the guy as pricing seemed fair and I’ve seen 3FE swaps.

I went and grabbed the complete engine, Intake, and air cleaner early Saturday morning. Met a cruiser head, and a genuinely nice guy.

I did not get the harness or the ECM.

This was a Runner with good compression numbers when pulled. The price was more than fair.

I might pull a couple of the accessories off and see if I can fit them to my engine. Otherwise it’s going to get some oil sprayed in the cyls and put on the shelf for now. Mine runs too good to do anything major with it.

Bought a project house, building a shop. Not much cruiser work lately, just driving. Hoping to start my 60 2FE project this winter.

I researched a bunch of 3FE during the last week. I think it’s a great option to stay Toyota. What I need to research is parts availability and common problems.

It could easily be refreshed on the engine stand (fresh rings and seals), dropped in wired up and go. So that’s definitely in the cards.

I love the thought of an OEM fuel injected inline 6 in the place of what I’ve got. I feel like it would keep the 40 in the current realm of operations with the added drive ability.

The 3FE is a solid motor, and the penultimate development of the F-series engines. One weakness is in the electrics; the relay that powers the fuel injection is undersized and prone to failure when the engine is hot, so that it won't re-start when hot. Can be fixed by hard-wiring in a more robust aftermarket relay.

The 3F has a slightly shorter stroke than the 2F; you gain some rpm and resulting hp at top speed, but lose a little torque on the lower end of rpm. The 3FE was a last-ditch attempt to improve the highway performance of the heavy 60 and 80-serries wagons before ultimately abandoning the F-series in favor of the 1FZ.

Parts availability is about the same as a 2F.

This is good info. Thank you.

The gun I have is a buck riveting type for solid rivets like in aircraft or airstreams, Pretty easy to get the hang of and doesn't take much air at all.
Let me know, you've got my digits.

@clrussell you’d know for sure… I had a 6cyl diesel in my Bandierante…. Almost cool but like driving one of these

Well I slotted vacation time off today. That gives me a deadline to accomplish some things. I’m going to spend a couple days at home and then go on a 40 trip semi locally.

To do before then-
Power steering belt refresh
Side cover / distributor oil leak
Heater install
Install air compressor
Fuel sender screw
Winch plate and winch
Install clutch cover

Hard top top.

Oh and I just realized that it’s 20 days away.

And I have already edited this list 3 times 🤣

I kind of love when these things escalate. Thats like when I was like I am just going to pull the assesories off the SBC in prep for the 2f swap and take my time and I ended up pulling the whole motor haha. The front of the 40 looked like this.

I was fighting working around the fenders when I remembered they would come off in about 1 minute. So I pulled them. So much more room and accessible.

I swapped a carb once and went skipping down the “yellow brick road”…I may have stopped for a beverage on occasion but, I got that carb changed..

While those fenders are off…Have at it.!!! 🍿🍻👈
