I swapped a carb once and went skipping down the “yellow brick road”…I may have stopped for a beverage on occasion but, I got that carb changed..

While those fenders are off…Have at it.!!! 🍿🍻👈
It is a very slippery slope. Thankfully my wallet holds me back otherwise I’d never have it ready for the trip.

Today’s progress.

Side cover gasket, distributor gasket, heater core installed, dual compressor Mount built, belt setup ironed out and long belt ordered.

My oldest wanted to help me so he got the job of installing the heater core and heater box. Thankfully he’s a little smaller than I am.

Turns out I was missing the rubber hose between the heater box and the blower tube. I joked and told my son we could build one out of license plates and he loved that idea. So we currently have a temporary heater connection, turned out good and seals decent with the double sided foam I used to seal it.

Belts came in and installed last night. Somehow managed to get the correct belt by ordering 2 close to what I thought I needed. New power steering hose fits as well with some bending.

Hoping to install the radiator and fan shroud today. I’m pretty certain the shroud will need modifications, so it won’t just be a bolt in and go.

I had a few extra minutes this morning between breakfast and waking the crew to start the day.
I sat the radiator in place and was very surprised at the lack of modifications that will be needed to make this work.

I modified the shroud and installed the radiator and support at lunch today. Added the heater hoses and refilled the coolant.

Shortly after that was done I started stripping the bib back to the original spring green paint that I knew was hiding below.

This evening after work I finished stripping the Bib, polishing, and reinstalled the grill and lights.

After dinner the kids were playing outside so I took advantage of being in the garage watching them play.

I ended up getting everything buttoned up minus the driver fender as I still need to build and install the power steering pressure line. My fittings came in today and I have the hose mocked up, just need to get hydraulic hose and crimp it.

Then fill the system, re route my alternator charge wire, install the fender and go back to driving it.

A couple hours left and it’s on the road again. 🤞

I have had this thought of a integrated roof tent top on a 40 for a while. Basically a pop top. Without the hole in the roof. Keep the tent low as possible.

Build my own drip rail, build a basic sheet metal top with supports to bolt my tent rails down that attaches using factory drip rain location. Something that when they tent is on it it’s all the way down to the windshield and roll bar. Able to remove and put the glass top back on when not needed. I know weight will be an issue. My tent is about 200 lbs with the awning.

You know full on broverland.

When you’re ready for the next phase of “That escalated quickly”, I’ve made some rain gutters out of some 1”x 2 1/2” rectangle tube that we split with a jig saw. Much stronger than OEM. Seems to be turning out well.

Any pictures? I’m about to start this phase of the project.
These are pictures of the rain gutter on a build jig, leaned against the wall. I need to make a longer roof, but had a decent donor front and rear piece so those are tacked on.
I believe the material was 12 gauge but it’s measuring a little thinner than that. 1x2 1/2 tube. We split the tube with a jigsaw, if you look at OEM one side is taller than the other and we tried to split it accordingly.

ETA I will say that the 1” width plus the jigsaw kerf left very little room for error, and we’re not perfectly straight to begin with. You might consider 1 1/2” if your going to death wheel it or have some other method.

Thank you! This is great info. That just saved a ton of work.

I may have missed it but that bracket you have for your ARB twin is slick. What is the cover that is around it? I was looking at how i was going to get mine to work and that may be the ticket

Mine is actually a knock off compressor, however it came with the cover.

The bracket was very simple, had a hinge on the rear and bolts down in the front. Remove a bolt, pivot backwards and you have full access to the battery.

OK now i see. Nice work for sure. Definitely going to take a hard look at this location for my twin. Thanks

Your welcome. I found where someone else did a similar location and honestly it was perfect location. It sacrifices no under hood room, high up away from everything, and keeps it from mounting on the body. The dual compressors are heavy.

I had an uh oh after work.

I cleaned the engine off with brake clean and proceeded to start the cruiser and move it. Well poof and 🔥🔥

Thankfully we got it out quickly and no major damage. I cleaned up and drove it 15 miles so that’s a bonus.

Also sat the tent on so I could get a visual and a game plan for my future roof.
