Driver side is fine... Passenger side lacks foot room.I hope you and your passenger are relatively small people in stature. That cab was built for German gremlins.
UNIMOG got a fresh coat of monstaliner thanks to help from Virgil and my son. Long day but I'm happy with it
I did see a stool in some of the photos.I hope you and your passenger are relatively small people in stature. That cab was built for German gremlins.
Yep...had to delete the steps since I went with larger tires. New steps will be made at some point. Also, the roof is around 8.5 feet tall so we needed something to get up and spray the truck.I did see a stool in some of the photos.
Output shaft bearing on transfer case?I’ve been working on diagnosing a noise the 4Runner is making for awhile now @alia176 is familiar with the noise from driving it. I initially thought wheel bearings so I replaced them during the front suspension rebuild. But now that the 4Runner is on the ground and driving again it’s still making the same noise.
Last night I put grease in all the zerks on the driveshafts and tried to find play and I don’t feel any play that seems abnormal.
Here’s what I’ve got for symptoms so far, the noise is a light pssshhh like a dry bearing would make:
I know the rear axle seals were done before I bought it, haven’t looked too close at the papers but I’d imagine the bearings were also replaced when that was done.
- Only happens when rolling above 10mph.
- Not rpm related only rolling speed
- clutch position or gear or trans in neutral do not change the noise
- Neutral on the tcase makes the noise much quieter but it’s still there
- Noise is louder if you put your hand on the tcase shifter
I’m thinking I’ll drain and fill the front diff and t case but now I’m stumped. I’ve read about the pinion bearings going bad but don’t know how I’d diagnose that.
I will bring it to the monthly breakfast on Saturday if anyone has any ideas
Definitely a possibility, tried to give the driveshafts a good shake while I was greasing everything but didnt feel anything I thought was bad. Maybe I need to lift the rear wheels off the ground and spin the ds by handOutput shaft bearing on transfer case?
I'm a little taller than you but I don't think any human could work on that thing without a ladder.Yep...had to delete the steps since I went with larger tires. New steps will be made at some point. Also, the roof is around 8.5 feet tall so we needed something to get up and spray the truck.
Trust me the latter has been out quite a bit.I'm a little taller than you but I don't think any human could work on that thing without a ladder.
I would fill it with diesel fuel and take it for a short slow drive then dump it.Well found my noiseView attachment 2844100
This is everything that came out of the transfer case.
Filled it put it in gear on jackstands and let it spin for awhile and emptied it.

@Dumpolina in the reflection (big thanks to him for the help) We also put mystery rear springs on his 4Runner to replace the LC80 fronts and it’s no longer stink bugging, he’s gotta give us an update on how it drives loaded down tomorrow.
If anyone has any tips for flushing this out Im all ears, just planning on a bunch of tcase fluid changes in short intervals with whatever fluid is cheap until it runs clearish and I’ll put redline or royal purple in it when stuff stops coming out.
or if anyone has a 3rd gen 4Runner tcase for a manual trans they’d sell I’ll be looking for a backup tcase to add to the parts hoard I’m starting
No idea on what’s damaged, the case has orange rtv instead of the Toyota black so possibly a bad reman case that got even worse because it got ran dry. Found one that came off a manual 4runner on Facebook and I guess as long as I find a j shift in the upull I can make that work too. Plan so far is to get a spare and possibly rebuild it on the side and do the swap later onTanner,
Glad you found the source of the noise but any idea what has come apart in your Tcase? Since you have a backup ride, have you thought about tearing into the Tcase and replacing what's needed? These cases are relatively easy to pull apart and work with. Toyota or Cruiseroutfitters should have all bearings and sprockets. Just a thought.
Toyota FIPG is orange. No idea on what’s damaged, the case has orange rtv instead of the Toyota black ...
@5speed addict an you drop the shaft and spin it freely by the flange? Or run it at idle in gear with no shaft?Definitely a possibility, tried to give the driveshafts a good shake while I was greasing everything but didnt feel anything I thought was bad. Maybe I need to lift the rear wheels off the ground and spin the ds by hand
it’s sloppy, and the tail cone is way cleaner than the case… really looks like someone’s been inside it.Toyota FIPG is orange.
