Nice rig!
I saw you Carlisle to i40 west like Friday, right?
Your 4Runner is much cleaner than mine.
You may wanna check out the local group High Desert Cruisers New Mexico
There are several 3rd gens in the group and a lot of knowledge.
We do a monthly get together at The Daily Grind off of Washington.
Best of luck with your plans, great foundation!

yep think it was either Friday or Saturday you caught me right after I washed and ceramic coated it. Been trying to figure out your setup, is there a build thread for your 4Runner? Pretty much the same setup I’m planning on running

Soooo I picked this rig up from @Chompers who got it from @lurch who put it together and would know of he did a build thread.
Chompers sent me the basic info that Lurch gave him when he got it:
- RevTec front spacers
- ARB/OME Heavy rears, OME struts/shocks (I can look at them for the part numbers if you want)
- Camburg squeaky UCA's that I may change out. Lurch said they were take-offs from a donor parts truck
- 1" body lift
- 1" diff drop
- CAT back exhaust w 2.5" Magnaflow CAT into a fkowmaster
- 4X Labs rear bumper with doube swing out
- Lurch added E-locker. Its got 4.10's
Lurch built the motor and did a ton of improvements.
I put it on the FZJ-80 HE wheels and put the current the ARB bumper/Warn M8000 on it with 1" raised mounts, lurch had one on it at one time also
Chompers put a Limited interior in it- swanky leather!

I had an Anthocite 97 Limited before set up similarly so I knew what to expect from it. It does everything I ask it to, knowing it is limited by its compomises, but its a great drive to the trail, wheel conservatively and drive home rig. And my dog likes it which is the whole reason I got it

Hope to see yours at a High Desert Cruisers meet up or outing. Yours is a lot prettier than mine!

is it auto or manual? what size tires? how does it feel with 4.10s? I figured I'd be in for a regear to 4.30s out of someone's auto or 4.56 when I went up in tire size. I'll need to raise the arb up eventually too, think im going to have to body lift to avoid having to chop the firewall

285’s, auto. It’s tolerable with 4.10’s. It could use lower low range, that’s where I feel it the most.
It works hard to maintain interstate speeds if it’s hilly at all but I come from the 22re world so I feel like it’s totally acceptable performance.
My opinion is that 4.30 is not enough of a jump to warrant the effort, check the math. What size are you looking at?

thinking somewhere around a 33 been thinking 255s or 285s, its geared at 4.10 right now and will be livable on 33s but would be a future thing to change out. did you do the arb mounts yourself? I need to do mine too, wanted to run a small body lift but was worried about the gap

I had 255’s with 4.30 on my other 97 limited, performed about the same as I recall.

Yes I did the mounts, pretty simple trim of the mounts and re-drill the bumper, IIRC.
If you don’t have capacity to do this, there are some guys in High Desert Cruisers that can set you up. Especially @Mauser , he may even have a better way of doing it than how I did

I can cut it and drill holes but I figured it would need to be cut and welded an inch higher. Did you just weld nuts to the back of those holes?

I’d need to check my notes… I may have welded a nut on bumper side mounts. I know I drilled the bumper side mounts and I think added a hole on the frame side mounts, I needed a jobber length bit and right angle drill.
There’s prolly easier ways, this just what I came up with to close the 1” gap. You are welcome to have a look at it when you get to this point.

No thread except for the rear bumper...

Man, those 3rd gens are sexxxxy. Kinda wish I still had her...

Painted spc arms with the upol raptor liner branded enamel paint and went for a drive in the jeep.

Came back 5 hours later and they still weren’t dry so I put them in the oven

Almost as good as powdercoat? Probably not but it’ll work for a bit.

Picked up some 35s mainly for the wheels but also to mock up and see if I’m going to be willing to do the work to make them fit.

I think for now 33s are going to work. Don’t really want to do gears or all the cutting and welding of the firewall just yet

Dang that’s a lotta tire

Couple things I forgot to post, not recent things.

First Honda minivan windshield sprayers. huge upgrade over the stock ones hits the windshield with a big fan of washer fluid vs the two jets the stock ones do. Should work on first gen Tacoma’s too

Fixing the clutch pedal squeak was a pretty big job, didn’t expect to have to fully replace the pedal but in the end it needed a new pedal new springs and new bushings.

(Before and after picture is one ripped from google, can’t find the ones I took)

After the full clutch pedal rebuild it felt a lot better than before and no more squeaking. Didn’t have to lift the clutch pedal to activate the cruise and i could feel the spring helping on clutch in and out.

Got a set of flares to hopefully help keep larger tires covered a little better than the chrome fender trim pieces.

have been trying to decide what to do with my steering wheel for a bit, it’s liveable but the peeling leather has been bugging me. Ended up with two three spokes and a stock wheel to replace the leather on.

Currently redoing most of the front suspension and new wheel bearings and probably going to reboot the cvs with some sort of high angle inner boot maybe Porsche 930 boots.

Seized alignment cam made this job a real pain.

New arms mine were pretty crusty. think I might clean up the old ones and weld on the eimkeith reinforcement kit for later on.

Also a new drivers seat belt because the fraying has been driving me nuts. Also got word that my new seat leather is almost done, can’t wait to get that all taken care of and add in some seat heaters.

Crazy! Gotta see this thing when all your attention to the details on the front suspension are in place

Hoping I’ll have the front completely done before the next monthly hdc breakfast. tire/wheel situation still up in the air, sorta have an idea but it might take a while to get it all figured out
