I am a few days behind.
Earlier this week, I had the chance to install replacement OME springs and shocks on the BJ70. I selected the heavy duty springs that OME offers thinking that I needed it for how I pack for the trail, so I was prepared for a very stiff ride with the new springs. That is not the result. The ride is actually softer than the worn out springs, plus no driveline vibration at interstate speeds so caster correction was needed. The soft ride could be an indicator of an issue. The rear shackles have rotated 30-40 degrees off vertical. I will be calling ARB tech support and discussing this to see if it is a rear problem and what may need to done.
Here are a couple if pictures (boring since you all have seen lifts before).

Plus, the new steering dampener is stouter than stock so I should not have a broken dampener at this GSMTR.

Yesterday, I picked up the 2F out of the machine shop. She was completely overhauled (including a new cam and oil pump). The work was done by Goza Automotive which is local to me and primarily does race engines. As such; they were able to machine, balance, assemble and test run the engine in-house.

Here she is back safely in the shop.

Still re-installing some items on the engine in preparation for putting her back in the truck. So while you are out enjoying the Cove and the company, I will be in the shop doing something Cruiser related too.

@autoluxury where is this Robinson Ridge at? Public or private? It looks like it would be a cool place and a pretty easy day trip from nashville.

Been needing to move fire wood from barn to shop. With all the rain, the barn lot has been perty soft but though it might be frozen enough to get the tractor in, I was wrong, could not back out, so so pulled load of wood and tractor out with 60.

Mmmm lock rite springs draining out of the diff.

Must be an old picture, you not using your $30 beer coozie.
That doesn't look good, the spring parts I mean.

Yes, @autoluxury. We need some answers.

On another note... I tried to install the stock muffler from an 05 4Runner on Kathy's 04 GX470 and found out why the part numbers are different for the mufflers. The front pipe for the 05 is 3" shorter than the 04. Trying to get rid of this flowmaster type muffler that the PO had installed. Too loud for the family truck.

And just one more note... I'm needing to have some work done on my 4Runner's transmission. Does anyone highly recommend a trans shop within a reasonable distance from Smyrna? I'll have to tow it there or borrow a car trailer to pull it there myself. Or if you have a spare a340f transmission that I can get for cheap...that'd be great too.

@ugamurph I had the 5 speed in my little black pickup and the 5 speed in my dads 1983 L 2wd pickup both rebuilt at Transmission Masters there on Murfreesboro Rd just north of Smyrna. They did a good job on both and would say it would be worth a call. I have no experience with them on slushbox work, but I did call them about working on an A440 in one of the cruisers and the guy seems reasonable and said he would need to test drive it before he offered any pricing advice. I'd say they'd be worth a call.

Transmission Masters Inc.

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the Runner?

Thanks, Matthew. I've heard good things about them. I'll stop by and talk to them tomorrow.

Here's the reader's digest version:
I drove down to Georgia and was close to my parent's house (a little more than 300 miles) when the CEL came on and the Trans Oil Temp light started coming on. I could smell the trans oil inside and outside the truck. I checked for coolant/trans fluid mixture, but the radiator was fine. No mixing. I didn't notice any shifting problems. I added some Seafoam Transmission additive to see if it would loosen up a sticky solenoid (thinking that might be the problem). CEL light went off for a little while. I drove it home the next day and CEL light came back on and started getting the Trans Oil Temp light any time I would slow to a stop or a near stop. Still no slipping. I drove it the next day to take one of the kids to school. The oil smell was much stronger especially inside the cab. When I came out of his school, I looked under and noticed oil dripping off of the skid plate and puddling underneath. I haven't driven it since that day.

The CEL is giving a P0770 code which indicates a problem with the lockup solenoid.

A friend and mechanic sent me this...
"The p0770 code activates when the truck is brought up to 50 mph and the trans goes into full lock up and then you slow down and it doesn't come out of full lock up like it should. The could be because of the solenoid being stuck, not allowing it to release, or it could be an issue in the valve body. Regardless, it is creating an enormous amount of pressure and blowing the fluid out. If it is blowing it out, that means those seals are now compromised."

Just praying it's nothing major and that the oil is only coming out of the breather and not any seals. If it is a major repair, I'll save up for a 5-speed swap... or just find another 4Runner to build.

Radiator is really common to bust trans cooler and mix fluids may mix in one or the other or both. I usually replace radiator and flush system twice with flush machine. Damage done is hard to gauge until that point
