What did you do with your truck today?

@DIXIESLEDPULLER I'll holler at you about both options. I like the idea of the 5speed if it doesn't break the bank. You know...the one that's already broken by this hobby of ours.

Pulled into the garage to prepare for Operation Transmission Fix. Kathy wasn't too happy about her GX being left out in the cold for the time being.

Once I get the skids off and can actually see what's going on down there, I'll have a better game plan. Hopefully I'll have some time to work on it this weekend.

Awhile back I fried a circuit board in my combination meter (aka instrument cluster). I bought a used one soon after and swapped that circuit board. Unbeknownst to me, the odometer data was held in a tiny chip on that board. My truck with 167k miles then showed over 200k. So, I promptly put the bad circuit board back in while I researched how to go about fixing the odometer problem.

Long story short... Today I finally swapped the chip from the original & bad circuit board to the new-used circuit board. I used a hot air/soldering iron rework station to remove and reinstall the smd chip.

There's the tiny chip. And my odo showing the correct miles.

Your check engine lights on :flipoff2:

You are much braver than me taking on swapping that chip. I'd be afraid I'd destroy something.

@jynx I knew someone would say something about that. The CEL is on in his picture becuase I had just turned the truck to on and didn't start it. But, if I drove it for any length of time, my transmission would blow fluid and the CEL would come back on.

@jason in tn, it is low on gas. But it's not been driven in a month. It's cheaper that way!

Feelin' the love!

Too optimistic?

I dropped the 4Runner off at Matt's Transmission in Murfreesboro. I had to leave it with all of those Heeps, Hummers, Chevys, Fords, and Dodges. At least it will be back up and running soon.

@ugamurph the like was because it is gonna be fixed soon, not cause it's busted. ;)
