Good time for sure. Here's a couple more for ya.
One day I'll get out west and enjoy some of these rides. Looks like an awesome time.

I received word that my 80 was finally going to be released from shipping jail. My company and the shipper have been fighting over what "NET 30" means, and it looks like I'm finally going to get Marjan back.

Took a walk around my new neighborhood in Germany and encountered this in a neighbor's driveway.

And yes, that is a Dakar 2010 sticker on that bad mama jama. I think I need to get to know this guy.
Duck's fan?

Nice ride.

It is CRAZY how different the top of black bear looks after only a month and a half.. I miss that area already.

Current state of my rig:

Went today to look at a possible donor body:

Seems all of the damage is limited to the front clip.. Aside from the actual fenders, hood, and cowl, everything can be used from my red truck. If I can get the right price it'll work out.. Originally he said it had lockers which would have made it a slam-dunk but when I got there, no dice.

I'll be the one to ask...what happened to your rig?

Donor is the right color! Nice! Too bad on the lockers.

Recovery school :/

I'll do more of a writeup when I get pictures from other people, but basically I tried to cross a snow drift that was covering half of a road using my lockers. The weight and traction of the vehicle on the driver's side rear tire caused the edge of the road to give way, and my attempt to get out of the situation was less than effective.

The jeep was very light and primarily there to keep the truck from pivoting and rolling further down the hill. Most of the work was done by a '100 with a winch parked against a truck-sized boulder. Then when it was on all 4 again, a 4runner with no winch used a tow strap to pull me back about 30 feet to flat/level ground where we could start wrenching.

KEEP YOUR HANDS INSIDE A ROLLING VEHICLE. That said, even though I didn't, and almost lost a hand when the a-pillar smashed it into the (soft) ground, I escaped with only a couple scrapes.

After getting it back on the wheels, pulling spark plugs to shoot the oil from the intake manifold out of the cylinders (damn pcv system), it started up on the second crank and drove down the mountain on its own power.. albeit with a LOT of smoke. Didn't even change the alignment.

Met and was helped by some truly awesome people too. If anyone is in Ouray DEFINITELY check out the Beaumont Historic Hotel. Words can't express how awesome the owners of that business are.

Back in Austin now.. will be keeping an eye out for cheap bodies. Every panel but the lower tailgate is smashed, and most of the glass. But, everything other than the body is perfectly fine.

Keep an eye out for a more detailed explanation of stuff

We visited a few closed mines around the Cochise Stronghold in Cochise Co, AZ. The signs said I couldn't make it, so I had to prove them wrong.

The water runoffs made for some excellent axle-tanglers... I leaned over a few times past my comfort level, teaching me that my comfort level was set too low for a FZJ-80.

We ran our newly converted M100 trailer at some fairly high speeds offered, we managed to find some high water after a hard rain in the low points, and we experienced some fishtailing due to a lighter weight on the return trip leaving a cloud of dust at 55 mph coming home. I can understand how some folks have flipped their trailers having too much fun.

Exactly what I thought.

No guarantee the front clip parts will be the same color.. but at this point I don't care. I half-like the idea of buying all different color doors and panels and having it be patchwork.. but that will end up costing more, ironically.

What will you have to do in regard to the DMV and swapping the VIN plate and changing the color?

Is the donor in worse shape than yours or just the front clip munched? Rebuild the donor and drive it?

I spent 3 months going through every aspect of the drivetrain/suspension/lockers/electrical of the red rig.. don't want to do it all over again. And a body swap is easier than moving all of the other stuff over.

As far as I know the VIN/emissions follows the frame.. which would be that of the red '94.. was even planning to use the dash and vin tag from that rig. Guess I need to look into that more.

Some more from alberta Rockies.

Went fishing with my wife. Tried our new RTT. Drove over Highwood Pass, the highest highway in Canada at 7249 ft leaving it in 5th gear the whole time. We hit 60'000km on our new HDJ81. Caught a nice fish! Over all great weekend.View attachment 1124678 View attachment 1124679 View attachment 1124680 View attachment 1124681 View attachment 1124684

What year is your HDJ? Really? 60K km? That's only 37K MILES!!!!! It's a BRAND NEW TRUCK!!!!!!!

Now....why does the truck in the beautiful picture of the mountains NOT match the one in your sig? You didn't paint over the cool paint job with the swoosh did you?

Looks like a great time was had! I'm jealous.......

The HDJ is a 1992 with a h151 manual trans. I purchassed it from a car collecto in Alberta who inported it when it had only 30 some k km on it. The rig on the sig is my first fj80 that I restored
