Last weekend was 'rebuilding' my original starter motor I have plenty of step by step pictures and was thinking of doing a write up if there is interest... This weekend gone was the start of building my own custom step sliders; so far just a slider bar and two arms. And today I will be learning to replace my belts, as it would seem my AC belt snapped over the weekend :S

Master Cylinder rebuild and soft brake lines replacement. Went smooth over all, peddle fees more firm, still need to bleed once more after working the ABS on some dirt roads. Old original lines look pretty dam good for their age.

Glacier National Park, Kintla Lake. You can get there with a minivan but we took the FSR road across from Eureka so the 80 got to have a little fun.

Yeah off topic but holy sh*t where did you see that? Do you know how rare and awesome that car is. Only 225ish were built and it was never sold here in the U.S.

I saw it in Calistoga, CA. I was walking down the street and stopped, stared for like 5 minutes. My friends were like "let's go man, that's an old Audi coupe..". I replied, "yep, just an old $500,000 Audi" : )

It was so mint and had a slick internal roll cage that looked like it came from the factory - had never seen that before. Beautiful car. And rally history.

Replaced my driver's door window switch with one from Switch Doctor last Tues. everything worked great...until yesterday. Rolling the window down and it stopped. Did the ol' "slam the door shut and see if that changes anything". It did. Window rolled down and I stopped it from going all the way down. Then when rolling it up it stopped. Slam door again and it finished.

So, this means he window motor is going toast, correct?!

Changed out my doors for a 92 fj80 so I won't have to weld up as many holes for the lx450 body cladding, started welding up the body panels till had to call it on account of rain, Yeah right rain what happened to the drought.

Used the Cruiser to get me and the kiddo to a trail head. Hiked un and spent the night. For the Cruiser, was a walk in the park. A few other cars in the lot didn't fair so well. Saw several flat tires.

I did too little. After finally fixing my long broken passenger seat gears, my driver's seat suddenly has an issue not 2 weeks later. I find the white cap on the floor, luckily, and putting it back on/in helps. But it keeps popping out so I need to glue or somehow get it to stay in.

I did replace brake, tail, and blinker lights with LED's. Not thrilled with it since they didn't get much brighter and the blinker is now a pale orange yellow rather than deeper amber - but hey it all runs cooler now I suppose. I actually think the LED license plate lights has a nice affect, and I really like the PFRAN 7W reverse lights.

Otherwise, drove it to work on Friday, to get beer and pizza on Saturday, and took the family to the pool on Sunday. Light duty.

Installed the new winch. The wireless remote should come in handy.




install is really simple with the color coded cables.


The cruiser is all winched up again.

What did the winch and remote set ya back? I've been eyeing a few brands now, and the truck fund is slowly building

List price on the SEAL 9.5rs is about $1200 but depending on where you get it I've seen them as low as $995. That is what Slee has them listed for on their site. Totally worth it IMO. Equal or better quality to a Warn Zeon IMO, less expensive and double the line speed.

Been looking into mile marker a bunch, trying to get something better than harbor freight, heard good and bad about those things and believe in ya get what ya pay for 95% of the time, and when counting on a winch, I'd like to have one that works!

Bought the same pfran reverse bulbs a month ago, one went out already.he's sending me another set, great with taking care of a customer, I just hope the replacement is good, and maybe I'll get a spare outta the deal as he's sending me a pair. In your case, the light may not be exactly what ya want, but the leds take away a bunch of unneeded current running through the system. I'm looking forward to getting some Cree headlight bulbs pretty soon!

@Phildoh I just installed a Smittybilt X20 12k waterproof winch with synth line - was $649 on Amazon, and it's $549 with steel cable. Came with wireless remote. I took it apart before installing it, not much opinion on that since I don't have any reference but install was easy on my ARB (with 3/8" spacers), and it spooled up the line perfectly fine. @MDJ also has the same unit, might have some real experience by now..

I'll post some pics when I get them organized.

I think SmittyBuilt has made improvements recently since they had a horrible reputation early on with water ingress and the contacts getting basically destroyed. I realize that quality winches are not cheap and some of the budget ones look attractive because of the lower price. I even spent a fair amount of time researching the Smittybuilt ones as an option. But in the end even with the improvements made to the XRC winches I'd still be wondering in the back of my mind if it was really going to work when I needed it to. That's not what I want from a winch. It's an item I want 100% confidence in, because usually when you need it, you NEED it. There is a HUGE difference in quality that is visible when looking at the ComeUp next to other winches like the XRC or HF or even the MileMarkers. I know everyone has a different budget and I suppose that any winch is better than no winch (as long as it works). FWIW, if I were looking at "budget" winches I'd get the Badlands winch ahead of any of the other ones. It's slow, but seems to be quite reliable. I know Woody ran the HF winch on his 80 for 3 years or so with no functional issues at all. Just the Wisconsion winters took a toll on the finish and kinda killed it.

Obviously I'm a fan of the ComeUp now that I have two of them, but I'm confident in saying they are worth the price and would recommend one to anyone that needs 100% confidence in a winch. I figure if the guys at Arctic Trucks rely on ComeUp in an environment where their lives could be on the line, that's a pretty good endorsement. They use ComeUp on all their builds.

Personally I've not been impressed with the Milemarkers. The few that guys I know have had on their trucks were having frequent problems with them, especially the hydraulic ones. But even the electric MM's seemed very finicky.
