PHH bypassed with gates hoses and breeze constant torque clamps.
The old one looked really good still.
Also replaced the fuel filter while I was in there

Installed the Polk db651's, 6.5 front and rear. Couldn't find a paint color I liked so i painted them with Rustoleum hammered look brown paint. I thought it looked okay after I painted them, but got a bit impatient and an hour after painting I sprayed a coat of clear over them. Fast forward to the next morning and the clear had a different effect then I was expecting; it leveled all of the hammered effect out of the paint. So, the covers turned out a medium metallic brown. They are not an exact match, but i think they turned out pretty nice.

Looks nice. How do they sound? I really need some new speakers!!
Did you do the fronts too?

They sound great to me, and they're not expensive which is nice. I'm sure they would sound better behind a new hu, but I'm happy for now. Here is a pic of what they replaced...

Replaced my oil pump cover seal, not fun. It had a slow leak when I got my 80 over a year ago but in the last couple weeks the leak got pretty bad so it had to be replaced. Replaced the crank seal since I was in there too.

Didn't take any after pictures.

Mounted my HiLift on the roof rack. The Hella plastic light housing snapped off which made the opportunity for this weekend project. I used the Hella light brackets since they were no longer needed. Mounted it on an angle to make it easy to remove and inside the rack area for when i get LED light bar. Used spare lug studs and wheel nuts in the original bracket mounting hole for the light stem, fit like a glove!

Those sliders stick out really good or is it just the pics ? Good side panel protection there. Do you have pics at the back where you can see how far the sliders go? Thanks

After I destroyed the spider gears in my rear third on a wheeling trip a few weeks back, I am trying another route. I went ahead and installed a drop-in auto locker, of the Spartan variety, in the rear third of my Land Cruiser.

The Spartan locker went into a spare used rear diff that I purchased here on MUD. It was missing the spider gears, so with the carrier empty, it seemed like the perfect time to try one of these out.

I am interested to experience first hand how it changes the driving characteristics of the vehicle. This truck doesn't see snow, so that potential concern isn't an issue. However, it will be interesting to see if I can get used to the pops and clunks on the road (how much, how bad, etc.), and how the locker improves off road driving.


Spartan locker

I'm sure the spartan handles similar to the Aussie. I've had my Aussie for about 3 years and its fairly seamless. I never notice it except for the ratchet sound on very tight slow turns and how bad ass it is off road.

Yes. In fact, the way I installed them, there is about 1/8" between the back of the speaker and the window arm when the window is lowered (measured using a piece of play-dough stuck to the back of the magnet.) The way I installed them was enlarging the hole in the door, then the spacer/mounting ring that came with the speaker, then put the door panel back on, then the speaker and cover.

The fronts actually just kiss the side of the dash. Just enough that I noticed a little deformation of the not quite cured paint on the grills. The fronts are much tighter than the rears, but they will fit using the same install sequence, but I also used the gasket that came with the speakers between the door and the ring on the front, but didn't in the rear.

Great to see some good old fashioned hacking on this forum. I don't have the dough for real lockers and don't wheel but commend you on the execution of a sleek hardware hack.

I imagine that a printed pcb version could be roughly half the size.

Thanks, this is the prototype, still working on incorporating the vehicle's "speed" signal to provide a max-speed safety interlock, then maybe a real PCB.
Just need to figure out an easy frequency-limit detector that won't bias the signal...that would affect the transmission sift pattern and also the cruise control....not good!
