These engines are all well-past their design lives. 31 years old and well north of 300K miles.

With the continued availability of the new OEM short block, IMO, rebuilding the bottom end of a 1FZ-FE is just dumb use of money unless you are looking for high-power, etc. When you factor in parts, labor, machine costs, logistics fees, etc., a short block is smarter money.

No run-of-the-mill machine shop can match Toyota Industries precision in manufacturing these engines.

then short block is what it will be. I am at 306,xxx miles and running strong but I guess eventually I will need it. And getting the short block makes it more likely that I can do it myself.

Picked up a couple alternators from the dealer, and rebuilding a power steering pump. Forgot to order a new shaft bearing so will have to finish it up tomorrow.

I like your logic. What's the cost of a 1FZ-FE short block these days? My '94 is less than 1K from crossing the 300K barrier and it's not driven near as much these days since it's not my DD anymore. Just trying to plan ahead for some needed oil leak maintenance and an oil pump knock repair. If the compression isn't up to snuff, I might be in the market for a short block. I've run Amsoil 10-30 100% synthetic for the last 200K with both the full flow and the by-pass filters, but that's not really a guarantee of extended engine life. Thanks, Onur!

Towed my long term project 66 Mustang that I’ve owned since high school with my LX I was getting the last of my metal work done that I needed which was a whole new floor pan. Luckily I hit a lot of traffic while I was fully loaded so it was nice easy towing.

My price is quite different than yours.

Find a Toyota dealer and buy it from them; I know there are lots of online sellers and sales and promotions etc. Try to snag one then.

No i bought all 4 from partsouq a week ago

Looking awesome. What tool did you use to cut your fender for the snorkel? I have a radius sitting in a box, really need to get around to installing it.

I used an air body saw, and a Milwaukee band file for cleanup.

Looks awesome. Hoping to get a similar (glass out) paint job in the near future. How did the side window frames look when they were pulled? Any corrosion on the frames or the body around them? Also, where did you source your quad head lights? I've been considering those, but having trouble finding OEM from the Australia models.

The side window frames were mint. The only corrosion I found in the window frames was some surface rust and minor pitting under the front windshield, in one of the corners, as well as a small hole in the hatch under the rear window.

I sourced the quads from a number of different places:
OEM Brackets and surrounds from cruisermatt
Custom Harness and buckets / frames from jcardona1
Generic Springs from ebay
Depo Corners from Amazon
Cheap LED Lights from eBay

You won't save any money piecing it together yourself, pick up a full kit from someone that has all the parts together! I know that jcardona1 frequently has full kits for sale.
