Took it out to stretch her legs since relocating to NC from WTX.

OEM or rebuilt?
OEM. Just got it from Olathe. Did some research and thought it was NLA but must not be the case or else they had old stock. No more fiddling around trying to get it buckled - super smooth. It's the little things in life!

Mine "works" but doesnt retract well..I might as well order now before they go NLA

I had a GFC platform for my Tacoma and when we sold it I picked up a Superlight for the 80. Was gonna go with the normal tent but I wanted a rack for when it’s removed.

I like GFC a lot but their pricing has gotten really high.

We paid $6000 and they sell for like $10k plus now.

We had an old fashioned soft eezi awn that we used extensively. But it was kind of annoying to put away if you drive every day on a trip. So we upgraded to the GFC 4 years ago. Being able to set up and take down in a minute or two is really nice. We've definitely gotten our money out of it.

I like the tent but GFC as a company is just okay. They benefit a lot from their social media cachet. And they proporitary t-track is a blatant money grab.

Some door cards. Will make a thread on this later.

Nice! I have the same. In the process of painting them all to match the oak interior and getting them in. Interested to hear what you did for the window seal. The description of the ones for sale on eBay weren’t confidence inspiring (ie, marking them as a gift with a low declared value to circumvent customs).

Tackled the harmonic balancer and front crank seal. Job actually went very well and didn’t have any hiccups. Took the opportunity to flush the cooling system and it was well overdue to say the least. I thought the red was the Toyota coolant but it was some nasty sludge. On the plus side, my normal operating tell on the ScanGauge dropped from 193* to 177*.

Where can I find more info on this hose forming method? You did a great job!

I watched a lot of videos, this guy did better than most:

There are three methods I see people use in videos, heat gun, hot water, and steam. I tried the hot water (not boiling) and didn't get great results. I was afraid the heat gun would burn, but it didn't.

You put a spring through the hose to avoid kinking, and a heavy spring holds heat and helps with the melt. This one worked great for the 5/8" heater hose: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BPP2ZLVK

I've done this with a few hoses and got the best results, by far, from the Goodyear/Continental HYT-Black. It's a commercial grade hose, chosen by ChatGPT as I prioritized durability and formability.

Test on small pieces to get the feel of it. I used the high setting on my heat gun, 3-5 minutes from all sides, as I held or clamped the hose into an exaggerated bend of what I wanted. The hose and spring get very hot and you can feel the hose start to yield. After a short wait I used gloved hands to hold the piece in the exaggerated bend and dunked the hose and spring in water. The hose will spring back slightly, but mostly holds the position where it cools.

very kinky! 😜

This weekend I changed my AC Idler, all of its hardware, and all my belts.

The old idler has been pretty crunchy and I think the very cold weather was too much, as I noticed the belts had stopped squealing. Well, they stopped squealing because the offender broke and went through the other pulleys on the way around, enough to damage the other belts, but not derail them. Last time I had anything like that happen, it locked up my water pump and blew the radiator.

Anyway, it took me way longer than it should have, but I am amazed at how quiet it is now.

I love it when I work on it and it really makes a difference!

Edit: it made it 373K miles!

Discovered I have a power steering leak I need to address, so new hoses needed there!

Started her for the first time in 4.5 years! Running a tad rough and quite a bit of water vapor coming out of the tail pipe. Put in some octane boost and 10 gallons of premium before start up. Check engine light is on, need to check on that after getting the brakes finished up. Only let her run for about 10 min and shut it down to wrap up other work and see where the fluids wound up after she cooled back down. Hope to have her road worthy next weekend!

You have no idea of what a relief it was to get her to start, ton of weight off my shoulders.
