Buy a wiring adapter, if your stereo harness is still intact it’s plug and play
Got it!! Just plugging in at this point. Should be all good as long as there are no funky wiring from previous owner.

Looks like a nightmare. I just did my stereo and it was much cleaner wiring so you may just need to splice…bummer
Seems pretty straight forward as long as I keep my head wrapped around the colors.

There is an extra harness in the 80 that was not plugged in when I started. Not sure what that’s about…

Stereo wiring can be such a pain. I had a bunch of stuff unplugged from a p/o which I guess in the end was good that they didn’t just splice into the harness. As long as the stereo is quality, the color coding should match, it’s pretty universal.

It is a Kenwood so it is very easy, just trying to clean up previous wiring mess. I took out a cb that was not working and found it was a cheap fuse holder that failed the cb. So I may keep the cb just need to mount it in a different place. It’s a honker of a devise.

The 80 has two wire harnesses because some vehicles got the upgraded stereos with the powered amplifier and extra speakers. Pretty common for Toyota back then. They sounded like hot garbage even when new but you could say look at all those speakers! People can hate on modern cars but one thing we got was much better sound systems in most vehicles. Killed the aftermarket stereo market though.

Done!!

Learned what this metal thing is for in the Toyota FIPG boxes! For 5 years I have seen them and throw them away, never really thought about it. Then today when sealing a timing cover it caught my eye and clicked. No SH!T it’s for squeezing out the sealant. Every last expensive drop. I’m sure everyone already knew this and never thought to share the secret.

I’m a Toyota tech I always save those things. At some point the tube size changed so now I need to start saving a damn tube just in case.
