Found a nice spot for the yaesu head unit and finally spent a bit of time modeling up various bits and 3D printing to get it the way fitting nicely.

Early protos (the back of the head unit is from yaesu) and the one gopro male 'clip' thing. The rest are 3d printed including the plate with the 4 screws and the base plate. Even the tightener thing.

After a few fits, I decided the rotate the female base plate 30deg to face the head unit towards me. I didn't use a gopro base, since I wanted it to be bigger to give more 'stick' to the console flat area. Using 3M vhb tape.

It's completely away from the passenger knees/legs and in a spot where there is nothing that it limits access to. Plenty of room to access the xfer lever etc.

Tomorrow will clean the console surface and stick the base down. Then fish the extension cable from the base unit to the head unit and plug it in.

I'd originally bough a ram gooseneck setup that would bolt under a seat mount, but didn't like that it would be somewhat in the passenger area. I like this solution a lot more. Also easy to unclip the gopro mount and remove it head unit if I need to remove the console etc.

cheers,
george.

pulled an engine code for my crank, no start (no CEL)
was the crank position sensor, which I just replaced, and that was not it :(

Packing the connector with dielectric grease wouldn't be of concern here would it?

Hey y'all. New guy from Phoenix here. I just picked up a 96 FZJ80, 212k miles, factory triple locked but everything is relatively stock. I have been reading the threads for a bit and thanks to everyone, I was able to free up the center diff actuator and get it working again along with the front diff actuator, I did the 7 pin mod in addition , and am currently baselining it. I can see the addiction with these vehicles.

Fixing a small dent 🤬 and I noticed some rust starting a bit in that inner fender. That's such a hard place to get to. Any suggestions on how to remedy that? I was thinking to spray with some brake parts cleaner or something like that to get it dry as possible ,popping the grommet on the bottom so it flows out and then spray with fluid film. Suggestions welcome

I prefer New Hampshire Oil Undercoating (NHOU.) It has virtually no smell and is stickier / lasts a lot longer than FF. But either should stop the rust from getting worse.

I don't think that packing the connector is going to cause your problem. It's also likely that the code for the crank sensor is just an effect, and not a cause of anything - i.e. I don't think the crank sensor has anything to do with whatever your problem is. More likely something like the EFI relay or fusible link...

New hood for my LX450 arrived from Rock Auto!

Closer inspection shows some damage to the rear lip and corner in several places, all probably fixable. I hate truck shipping.

But that isn't the biggest issue with the hood....

It is for a 1998 and later...

Checked my order, and I did indeed ordered the correct year.

This isn't 80s tech specifically but as a reminder to the crowd here....

You're rust isn't that bad. It could always be worse

Installed a Harrop E-Locker in the front axle a few weeks back (front drive flanges were worn out, bit of backlash from diff center, wheel bearings needed doing, etc) but only just recieved the factory locker dial. It was wired into the factoy harness so the dash light comes on and the transfer case low range interlock works. Fixed the D light while I was installing the rear/front locker light bulbs.

Pretty happy with the result, my GXL is slowly turning into a sahara (added electric auxhillary fan to aircon condenser last year too).

(The front locker is currently wired to the 'R' position on the switch so it will turn on in either position. If I somehow have big chunk of spare cash laying around to put a rear in one day I'll have it wired correctly)

Do you have a reference or some notes how you wired the locker to that type of oem switch and how you made the dashboard light go on when the locker is in use?

Old wise man told me once or twice "Can't fall off the floor". Have a great day :flipoff2:
