Ahhh that's the area where I am from! Stopped by that shop a few years ago and spoke to one of the managers (think I still have his card around somewhere). Talked about them stocking some 80 series and maybe being a buyer in the near future, seems I might have supercharged their interest. How was your overall experience with them?

I can see them on occasion. I just laugh because usually when I see them they're on something that'll never need them

When I was in Oregon a rig was trying to use them to get out of the sand. I got tired of watching and winched them out.

Plenty of people buy the cheap, garbage nameless traction boards online, only to use them the first time and watch them fold up. Seen that a few times on WORN recoveries.

To be honest, the real reason i carry mine is to get a good base under my high lift if i ever need it (I've never needed it).

Excellent buying experience. They were very professional, answered my torrent of questions over email and over the phone. The paperwork was super smooth, had me in and out in less than an hour. Everything was prepped when I got there, did a test drive, then signed, paid, and started the long drive back to Colorado. If you do decide to buy from them, send me a DM. I have the card of the guy I worked with there somewhere around here.

I’ve never had much luck selling anything here. A lot of tire kickers and story tellers but not a lot of buyers. BaT seemed like the best option to reach the most people and the ‘buyers’ tend to follow through with the sale.

6’5”, 270. Feel like I’m driving a clown car most of the time. Have to wear my flattest shoes to give a little more knee/legroom. I fit pretty comfortably in a 200 but these 80’s are just a bit too small.

I've got you beat and ScheelManns are the answer. Total 100% comfort!!!!!!! But your kids will be doomed with even less legroom. I'm dealing with that now. No way I'm selling my 80 so kids gotta go! KIDDING...buying the wife a new car instead. But seriously consider the ScheelManns if you can make it all work.

This boat is just 26’. A trailer for a 32’ boat is doable but will definitely cost some money. It would need to be custom and would probably end up being $15k-$20k.

Done any seat mods? I wheeled with a guy years back who IIRC is 6’9”. He had made brackets to push the seat considerably further back.

Yeah this is a solid first start. There were seat extension brackets that were sold by WitsEnd at one point. I may have a set lying around for cheap if he promises not to sell the truck

I know EXACTLY what youre saying about the flat shoe thing!!! Im also 6'5", but you have about 50# on me. I put a set of '00 4Runner seats in mine. Took some time/work to get them to fit, but are a huge improvment from the stock 450 seats in height and legroom. I did lose quite a bit of rear seat legroom though....

I can't believe one of Jack Helms' treasures made it all the way to Huntsville. I had the privilege of touring the shop in Chapin after Hugo destroyed South Carolina. Joe Watters was running it as Watters' Sail Loft (Jack had passed away by then) and had a 36 footer in there to rebuild. It was blown up on the BAttery and Joe said he told the owner it wasn't worth fixing. The owner told him he didn't care if they had to build it new, saving only the keel, he wanted it fixed. I sympathized. And drooled a little.

Got my exhaust manifolds and new gaskets on. Set the torque on the manifold studs, cleaned up a ton, ran some coolant hoses, and most satisfyingly, cleaned and rebuilt my distributor. There was so much oil caked on the bottom due to that old O ring that I thought some of it was black plastic parts. Much better now, and a few more things off the punch list.

Do you mind on elaborating on rebuilding your distributor? Mine has been throwing a code 12 and makes a strange noise on occasion at start up. Thanks

Good stuff! I was able to track down Jack's brother not long ago who is still living. He's a great guy who still has hull #3 and #7 of the 32' of which only 10 were built. We chatted for a while and then he mailed me the original build sheet for my boat that he pulled out of files and a handwritten note. The old sailboat community is not unlike the Landcruiser community.
